back box removal Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

HELP!

Is there a trick to removing the rear box and pipework from a Mk1 vRS? I've undone all the clamps and rubbers (1 clamp, 2 rubber hangers) but I can't wiggle it out (ooo errr!)

Surely the rear crossmember doesn't need to come down for something as simple as removing an exhaust??

Anyone know?

If it is the original one then you will need to cut it off.

Look just above the rear axle and there are a few marks, cut in between these and it will come off.

Thanks, and ******. Didn't want to cut it - thought I might keep it as a spare...

Oh well

Chop it at the straight bit between the dots. If you want to rejoin skoda sell the jointing sleeve to reconnect.

it's actually got one join with a sleeve, where the pipe turns towards the offside. Is this where you're talking about? If it is I still can't get the bloody thing out because then bend over the axle is too tight..

As above they normally have a cutting point indicated with 3 lines of 2 dots, the middle set of dots is the cutting point and is probably somewhere near the rear beam.

If its the original system, there will be no joints from the turbo all the way to the end. When I had a miltek fitted, the original once was cut in 3 places so it could be got off and fit in my car.

If you have a joint, it sounds like the backbox has already been replaced. If the joint has seized then its most likely corrosion thats preventing you pulling the 2 apart.

Looking at this picture it would seem the cut points are just to the front of the rear beam. If you can't get it over the beam you may need to jack the car up to give you more space.

Thanks Stu,

It's already up on ramps and I still couldn't wiggle it around enough to clear the axle, so I cut it off!

Got the new pipe on now, and although I haven't sealed any of the joints (one behind the cat and one over the axle) it sounds great - a really deep burble on tickover.

All I need do now is find some exhaust rubbers that actually fit these hangers (it's a custome made powerflow job and I think the brackets must have been mated to some custom rubbers because mine don't fit)

All good fun though...

The car hasn't been slammed or anything? One of my dad's had settled a fair bit, and that had done in the clearance over the rear axle.

As for the rubbers, if you take them to any rapid fit place, they should be able to find the correct ones for you. Note that they may require a bit of stretching though!
