Coilovers for 2.0tdi

Featured Replies

Hi.

Is there anyone with a coilover suspension in a Octavia 2.0 tdi from 2006?

If so, what manufacturer do you recomend? KW, Eibach, Sachs... or what?

Does it give any problems with light sensors? Or tires?

Did you also install a new torsion bar?

You know, I'm from Portugal and there aren't many Octis II. So when I ask for a coilover set (some dealers don't even know what coilover is) for my Octi they tell me "that doesn't exist".

And what about springs? Does it gets too hard?

Thanks.

Hi there

Just had KW Coilovers fitted to my 2006 2.0 tdi PD140

Im absolutely delighted with them, and absolutely no problems with sensors etc at all.

Excellent ride/handling and still a decent comfort level

I would definitely recommend them to anyone

Cheers

congratulations damo. It's really good. It has a clean and soft look.

Are those bumpers from Milotec? If so could you show me a pic of the front one?

Thanks.

Ps. I'm sorry for my english. I can't remember all gramatics I've learned at schooll, 16 years ago . I believe it sounds more "american" then english... You know? In Portugal we have the same thing: English people trying to talk portuguese and all they do is talking brasilian (Brasil). To us, portuguese, there's a huge diference, but for foreigns it sounds pretty much the same.

thankyou gaviao, your very kind. The bumpers are just standard, but most of its colour coded as standard as its the sport spec. I have just colour coded the side protection mouldings(bumpstrips) and front grille to match. I went for the coilovers over my initial choice of the popular koni fsd/eibach combo as that only lowers upto 20mm and the gap on mine was way more. At present the coilovers are wound down approx 70mm, which tells you how high it was before. Anyway, Best of luck with your suspension upgrade whichever route you intend to go down. Regards, Damo.

Is that the standard spoiler for the Sport model? MUCH nicer than the boy-racer VRS one in my opinion. Very tasteful car altogether - subtle and stylish (unlike many pimp-my-ride style mod jobs!).

thanks for the nice comments.yes, its the standard spoiler, and it is more subtle than the vrs. There is a whole thread about vrs v sport if you do a quick search. Makes for an enjoyable read, especially the pic of my spoiler talking lol. Cheers, Damo

Can I show my total ignorance? :o:O

What is a coilover? :o

Damo, car looks absolutely fab ............. love it

coilovers are suspension you can adjust the height of. You wind them down to your required height

That is one beautifully understated automobile Damo. Out of interest, what was the effect of the coilovers on ride quality (be honest now!). And are those BBS wheels a lot lighter than the stadard items as an aid ride quality?

Thankyou for the nice comments. tbh I was genuinely surprised by the ride quality, obviously its firmer, but not uncomfortably so. I would say its just a bit firmer than my previous vrs with the 18" zeniths. On previous cars I have only ever had lowering springs and they made for a really harsh ride over bumps. The coilies are firm but not crashy and handle bumps much better than those did. Also the fact that the Octy is quite a large car and soaks bumps up generally helps. I would honestly recommend them as the benefits far outweigh the firmer ride. As regards the Alloys, I never actually weighed them but I guess they are probably a bit lighter, sorry I cant help on that question. Cheers, Damo

Edited by damo :-)

There is a picture of a coilover

They are adjustable as there is a plate that the springs sit on

Then that plate can be spun up or down so you can adjust the lowering

Yup , cracking looking car Damo  credit to you

What are the prices for the KW V2's?

Hi

Now you are making me think and it is making my head hurt :runchin:

I cant actually remember , but I do belive that the V2`s are not the best ones for the vRS , now I cannot remember why

I know we looked in to it when Gerry was getting his fitted

The V1`s and V3`s are the ones that we have sold , blimey , I will have to get my thinking cap on , or just give KW a call

V1`s are £560.85 + VAT

V3`s are £841.71 + VAT

I think a call is in order , I am off to do it

Sarah

.......................that's a bloody long phone call Sarah! :P ;)

Might have to plump for the V3's then, but woul dbe interested why you don't recomment the V2's?!?

How much for fitting? Need to kno how much to save up... ;)

The V3's were knocking on a grand and a half fitted IIRC

My V1's were £930 all in, thats fitted and geo set up

Personally I doubt I would have had much use for the extra feature of the V3's, but I guess some people would

I would just like the option of adjustable dampening...

can you go any lower with yours? Mine seems to be like a 4x4 at the mo, and i doubt just springs would suffice...

Cheers,

Dom

Hi Dom

They are wound down 70mm, which is the most the tech said was probably advisable in my situation (3kids, pram etc.)

It will go down maybe another 20-30mm, but then there may be issues with catching

I was not that bothered about the dampening, as I trusted KW to know what they were doing, but if you require that feature fair enough

Mine was also like a 4x4 prior to having the coilies on, and I was going to go with Koni FSD/Eibach, which is popular amongst the VRS owners, but that would only go down around 20mm or so, which was nowhere near enough for what I required

Good luck with whatever your option you decide anyway

Cheers

.......................that's a bloody long phone call Sarah! :P ;)

Sorry , made the call , then got a call to go to York

So singing away (as you do) to Take That , I forgot

I did check , KW did say that V2`s not on an Octavia  they didnt say why , just no

Sorry :(

Sarah

What other make coilovers are there? How long did fitting of the V1's/geo setup take cos my car is my day to day car...?
