Skoda Superb faulty electrics

Featured Replies

For some time now my 2004.130bhp tdi skoda superb has an electrical fault which has left me with no courtesy lights other than the two passenger rear lights which can be operated manually, the two little overhead red cats eyes and the door latch led's

the lights which fail to come on are as followed : overhead map lights, sunvisor mirror lights, footwell lights, door kerbside lights, and the boot light.

the skoda tech guys tried to find the fault for around 2 hours but failed to pin point the problem, but they must of disturbed something as the overhead map lights did work faintly for around a couple of days.

Over the last few weeks the car appears to have a total power failure for a second or so where the trip com / mileage resets itself. ( no power loss from engine) the central locking is playing up and the rear drivers side passenger door wont open.

Does this seem like a earth fault / power supply or something more serious. The car becomes a pain in the *** as the dark nights draw in so if any one has any suggestions where to start looking to trace the fault I would be very grateful.

Regards Paul.

Make sure the footwells are dry, if the scuttle has blocked rain won't drain, overwhelms the pollen filter and then comes in and ruins the module for the electrics.

I'm 95% certain you have water ingress through the pollen filter housing, and you will most likely need a replacement convenience ECU that lives in the passenger footwell. :(

I have an electrical looking fault that prevents me from adjusting my driver seat (power seat) And the seat memory buttons don't work anymore either. Do you think this could be water ingress? Is there an easy way to check? The carpets seem dry.

I park down a slope with the car facing up hill. Could this make it worse in the rain?

Whilst it could be the convenience controller, I have seen a loose fuse and a bad earth cause this kind of problem. It is worth checking these first.

You say a "total power failure". Does the speedo/tacho die too, when this happens? If so then it more likely to be an earth/power fault.

Thanks for that rwbaldwin. No it is not really a total power failure. The speedo and everything else works fine. I can still adjust the passenger side seat. It is just the driver seat that can't be adjusted any more. But the seat heating still works for all the seats including the driver seat. But the seat memory function doesn't work anymore either.

The interior light problem is likely to be corroded wiring joints in the harness adjacent to the CCM under the passenger's seat. Water ingress causes these useless joints to fall apart. This link gives advice on fixing the leak:

Never ever park a Superb facing uphill in the rain. The detail design of the plenum chamber is so poor that water ingress is almost inevitable.

Apart from not parking uphill, is there anything else I can do to prevent the water ingress problem? If I keep checking the pollen filter often to make sure it isn't blocked would that prevent water ingress?

Its not the pollen filter that gets blocked but the plenum chamber, (it has two rubber grommets that ideally need removing, one is under the battery the other under the servo - this one also has a metal brake pipe running through the grommet)

Whilst you are doing that i would remove the pollen filter housing and put a replacement upgraded seal or silicon sealant where the std outside seal fits, this seal is poor quality and will eventually allow water through.

Hi, i also have a 2003 1.9tdi superb and i have the same problem with the interior lights, can you tell me how (if) you fixed the problem in the end, as it is becoming really frustrating. the only courtesy lights i have are the ones in the back.

thanks

Richie, have you followed all the above advise?

Yeah i have, there was a little dampness and replaced a coupld of connections, but most of the wires seem fine and the board in the ccm seems ok, i wasn't sure if it might be something to do witht he circuit board in the over head light unit in the front. As the day before they went it flicked and i pushed the unit up and tapped it and it came on, but then the next day nothing?

Did you cure your drivers electric seat problem, I have just started with the same fault. Was it water ingress or something else?
