Flaking front bumper - cost to repaint?

Featured Replies

Got the typical flaking paint on the mating face of the lower part of the vRS front bumper (silver) - it wasn't too bad before but now it's getting to the point where it's intrusive and I'd like to get it fixed. Car is an 04 so clearly no longer under warranty and so I'll need to pay for the re-spray.

My questions are, can they just spray the bottom part or does the upper part of the front bumper need to be done too?

Also, has anyone else paid for this work to be done as opposed to under warranty? I understand costs will vary wildly but a ballpark figure would be good just so I don't faint when I go to the bodyshop and ask for a quote. :D

Thanks guys,

Chris.

Errm, I mentioned mine was doing it in that thread - I didn't ask how much it would be to fix hence I'm doing it now.

Never thought of Chips Away. Good thinking!

They did my wheels recently for not much cash and maybe able to sort it without going into a full respray.

That sounds more appealing - cash is tight at the mo after fitting a new kitchen.

Did they do a full refurb on your wheels or just repair kerbed areas?

They did what needed doing and they ended up looking like new.

They run a franchise system so you will probably have a local one.

how long is the paint warranty?

Gotcha - Yeah, one of the lads at work quit to set up his own Chips Away in Bradford.

Will give them a shout.

Thanks Decron,

Chris.

3 years for paint defects - 10 years for perforation. :(

would this not be classed as perforation?

My fabia did the same but i had no way of claiming as i had hacked a big hole in the front for my fmic haha

i would check with skoda on that one before rushing off to buy paint

I thought perforation was rust? A rusty plastic front bumper......hmmm :D

Or am I wrong?

I dunno, i thought perforation was any "perforation" of the paint surface.?

at the end of the day the car is only 4 years old, if there is no damage (stone chips etc) in the area then the paint should just not fall off like that.

and the fact that quite a few vrs's have shown this is reason that its a manufactoring/ design defect.
