Ignition key

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Can someone tell me how to open the key to change the battery. My battery has died for the second time in a year and I would like to see if there is a problem before I shell out £80 for a new key

Comes apart pretty easy, its in 2 parts you just need to pull from both ends and it will come in 2.

The battery is in the top half (key ring end) and you should just be able to pop it in half and replace battery. There are some nice guides floating about in the web.

I'd use hi quality replacement batteries, and remember not to touch + and - parts of the battery at the same time. This kills button batteries. ;)

I've never replace a VAG battery in 5 years of heavy usage on both cars.

EDIT - likely button being held when in your pocket. Not back pocket by any chance?
