How do you get leaves out of the air ducts!?

Featured Replies

Just had my mate do a little service on my octy - he replaced the pollen filter and a leaf or something leaflike has got into the fans and is clicking like a wrongun- Any suggestions? my mate says give it a week and the leaf will disintergrate when it dries out!

Probably so, but have any of you guys had the same issue - its driving me nuts!

Yep, you could either wait until the leaf dries out and then disintegrates...

Or suck it out with a strong hoover?

Or use a long pair of tweezers? (depends how far down the air duct it is, you can remove the vents quite easily)

Try and remove any leaves that collect just in front of the bulkhead as they will either get sucked into the air ducts or slide down behind the wheel arches... and avoid parking under trees if possible

There's a small 'service hatch' on the motor housing which allows you to clean any stray leaves out of the fan.

If you remove the glove box (5 torx screws) and examine the heater assembly, you will see the hatch.

if it's dropped down into the fan motor housing, you could just get at it there.

it's easier than you think to do. Just remove the glovebox and fan motor and your in....

I wonder if my annoying ticking noise is just something like that - I only get it when it's over about 24 degrees so I generally forget about it!!

Thanks so much - how the hell do you know that? I had no idea the glove box even came out and certainly did not know about any service hatch!

Great advice - Im sure plenty of others have this problem too!

Well Cheers once again!

  • 4 weeks later...

sounds like a job for wee henry(hoover that is)

Coincidence: I had my car serviced two weeks ago including a pollen filter change. The following day I had a clicking noise that sounded like something touching the heater fan blades.

I put the fan on full speed for a while on a short journey and the noise ceased next time I used the car.

I guess it was a leaf as said above.
