Map driving radius's application?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of any applications whereby I could plot peoples locations, factor in a traveling distance/time and it would create a rough map based on accurate road data rather than simply drawing a circle?

I'm creating a proposal for the MD off my own back to show where holes in our coverage are, and obv how I can help/move up the ladder ;)

There used to me a MS app, but I'm dammed if I can find it.

Might you mean MS MapPoint?

Microsoft MapPoint 2006 (think there's later versions now, 2009 IIRC - but that seemed a decent info link)

No experience of it myself I'm afraid, but I know people who use it...

Past this you're more into the Transport Planning territory, with traffic counting and statistical analysis/modelling of routes/junctions etc. I know just the right people, should you want a study doing though ;)

IIRC you can do this on Microsoft AutoRoute.....

Had hoped that there may have been a mappoint demo for the UK. The US demo is irrelevant to me, as I cant confirm the app is working as I hope.

Really the idea is to place engineers on a map, plot in 60-90 minutes travel radius (by roads not just a circle) to highlight gaps, to take to the big boss.

Basically ops guy ignoring everything, running his own agenda. I want to ensure that management is aware, and poss help me with a proposal I have for me.

You should be able to get a demo here:

Microsoft MapPoint 2006

Trial DVD ordered. Thanks!

Couldnt find such a link last night.

No worries - hope it works out for you

It's the only thing I can think of that will get you close to what you want to achieve. I'll ask the gurus tomorrow though, see if they have any suggestions.

Steve

let us know how you get on!!

Had a chat with our mapping chaps today, and they reckon MapPoint is the best way to go. They can't think of anything else that would do the job really...

Cheers,

Steve

Thanks Steve.

I'll post up some results when the DVD arrives and I've had a play.
