1.8T remapping- 150bhp

Featured Replies

Are the 150 and 180bhp units identical? What sort of power upgrade can expect from a remap of a 150bhp? Can I get the same power as you would from a remapped 180bhp unit or are there differences in the ECU that limit power to 180-190bhp? Read different things about this...

it will remap to 210-220 with ease

Happy days. Just remember reading something about the 150bhp engines in Golfs only going to 180-190bhp.

the 150 engines in octavias seem to have the ko3s instead of the k03 as found in the golfs.

The later drive-by-wire engines will remap to 210+

The earlier ones without DBW would only do about 185/190.

I believe that the change to the engine happened at the same time as the facelift , so if it's an Elegance trim then it will be the more tuneable engine , if it's an SLX it's the older one.

It's a 2001 4X4 Elegance.. Is that DBW?

I'll not bother remapping unless it'll go to 210 or so.

Yep , that will be a drive by wire engine and will remap up to the sunny side of 200bhp :D

Ignore the potential bhp improvement for a moment, the torque figures should jump quite handsomely and torque is more important than bhp figures when it comes to smiles per miles :D

What sort of effect will I see on fuel economy on a conservative remap? Talking normal, careful driving style. Positive or negative effect?! At the minute 36mpg would be the norm for me.

Hello

People look at peak BHP too much, a 1.8T KO3s remapped to 210bhp is not always quicker then a 195bhp remap, some tuners spike the boost and compromise the avg bhp across the whole rev range, some tuners make strong smoother power across the whole rev range but there peak bhp might be lower and there avg bhp might be up to 15bhp greater. You ask any pro race car tuner they will tell you greater avg bhp gets better results & wins races. You need to look at the quality of the remap, does the boost spike the then power drains of higher up the rev range? or is the power strong and constant across the rev range up to the redline? When we first started remapping we where all into max / peak bhp., but since we have joined forces with X-spec Subaru Race consultants all our remaps are now based on constant power with greater avg bhp. You can still get really good remaps with high avg and peak power but only a few tuners in the UK offer them.

If you drive it in exactly the same way as before then a small improvement isn't out of the question , but most people tend to use the extra power more often and get the same or slightly worse than before

A good combination that 4x4 sytstem and a remapped 1.8t AUM Ko3s. I took one for a good test drive last week after we remapped it and I thought about selling my 310bhp calibra turbo to buy a octy 4x4 to tune upto 300+bhp, but as usual the wife 2b put her claws in and brought the old " we have a wedding to pay for " bull phoop out of thr bag! :finger: lol

Ours managed a whisker over 220 & the car was completeley transformed with loads more torque. Mpg also improved slightly on "normal" driving & wasnt horrendous when thrashed. car was mapped by Jabbasport.

Well done Martin, I guess you got to it before the moderator.

wonder if i could sneak a cheeky remap into my mums 4x4 elegance lol

i'm fairly sure she'd notice :D

Well worth remapping - my 4x4 has been Revo'd, they reckon a bit over 200hp but I'm not really bothered, it just drives about a million times better than standard. Word of caution though - it cost me a new clutch, which is no joke on a 4x4. Usually averages about 26-30 on 12 mile commute to work, up to high 30's on a run. You'll want to change the brakes to Vrs standard too.
