Removing the Gearbox on a Furby vRS

Featured Replies

Help - ANy ideas on getting the gearbox out?

All the other cars can be removed with the engine in but on the vRS if catches on the subframe

Anybody know what is normal to remove the box?

Haynes are not much use on the vRS and lookign at the Octy PD130 you can do that with the engine in!

- We are just pulling the box to fit some LSD, bigger turbo and stuff (oh and new fly wheel, clutch etc)

I usually drop the subframe down.

THanks Lummox - thats a start!

I usually drop the subframe down.

That's how I did mine.

I reviewed the Haynes and the OEM manual and then put critical questions to our resident Master-Tech....

and as a bonus, it all worked fine, with no extra bits left over too...

ive heard you can do it by rotating the box 90 degrees then dropping as you remove it from engine. Can lummox clarify this. only reason im asking is because it saves having to have 4 wheel alignment afterwards if the frame comes out???

You cant rotate it as te diff sits practically in the subframe.

I dropped the subframe too, during my gearbox swap.

I dropped the subframe also.:D

you can mark the wheel hubs/subframe's position with a typing correction fluid pen. Still should have an alignment but it's fine until you can schedule one...

Definately drop the front subframe, saves a lot of hassle. You wont need to do a front wheel alignment check, they always go back sweet, i've done loads and never had to do this and never had anybody come back with any related issues.

Also I drain the gear oil and remove the O/S drive flange from the gearbox by undoing the 6mm allen key bolt in the center of it. Again this makes removal a lot easier and it's always good practice to renew the oil anyway.

Do a gear box on a MK5 TDi 4Mo and the vRS is a walk in the park..lol

I droped the subframe on my old one aswell

good luck
