New discs...Old pads

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me if it's ok too put new discs on with old pads. The pads in question are only about 3 months old.

Any ideas :D

get new ones, the pads kind of wear into the disc as they are being used, so there might be high spots on he pad which will prematurely wear out the new disc

The disc's aren't knackered, if I'm honest I'm just looking for something too do on the car. I leave them for now then, until they both need doing.

Many thanks

That is right, it could cause you issues and reduce you braking efficiency.

I wouldn't say it's a massive no no (Having done this myself several times) and if the pads are in a good even condition then it can work. If your not sure about it however, new pads are about £30 which is a better job. You wont have to take it all apart again so soon and you have piece of mind.

See, I had a rear ARB for sale last week, would have fitted yours a treat

Just planting seeds here....

Just run a belt sander over your old pads to get the running surface flat.
