Noisey SDI Octavia 2001

Featured Replies

Hi, Has anyone experienced lots of exaust noise from the manifold area on this model, particularly around 3000revs when accelerating. I have had the exhaust checked and it is fine. The car has done 168k.

If this is normal, has anyone got ideas on making it quieter!

Thanks for looking

octavia I group?

Yes some of our taxis in my town have had this problem and have had the gasket at the manifold changed which sorted it

Yes, I had to do one recently. The exhaust doesn't seem to be as robust as the turbo for some reason. If no leaks in the downpipe (as was the case with this one) it's strip off the exhaust manifold, sort all the surfaces and replace the manifold to head and manifold to downpipe gaskets, with a little qualtiy sealant for good measure. Both sides were leaking a little on this one. You may be lucky and it's just the downpipe one.

When it's ticking over you shouldn't smell exhaust under the bonnet when stiffing around the back. If you do - it's also a sign of a leaking gasket.

Greg.
