Lots of Lateral Movement!!

Featured Replies

Strange one really. At motorway speeds my Octy seems quite unstable and feels as if there is a constant cross wind even though there isnt! I find myself constantly making minor steering adjustments to keep it on line. Any thing that could cause this? The steering deadband seems quite wide, but then again maybe it should be. I know my ARB bushes need replacing and the tracking is out but its not that its pulling to one side, it feels more like its being blown........oh and its not a constant frequency event.

Have you checked your tyre pressures as I have heard this can have a dramatic effect on stability at speed.

Tracking being out can cause this, especially if its making the car crab slightly. I would first get the tracking corrected by getting a 4 wheel alignment done and also check the tyre pressures. The ARB bushes shouldnt be a reason for this to be happening.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm getting the tracking done on Saturday. Tyre pressures are fine I reckon, I check them every 2 weeks anyway. Thanks!

That's not right; mine can be driven "hands off" (I'm careful doing this; hands off means about 5mm separation between skin and leather).

As Manny says, but check the front TCA bushes before the tracking, because worn TCA bushes can make a car lose tracking when moving, but still be trackable (holds adjustment even when pushed up and down a lift track).
