Bolt snapped in cylinder head cover: help!

Featured Replies

I was tightening it up to its correct torque and the bolt snapped. Does anyone know a friendly machine shop which could get it out for me? I live in the Wigan area.

Many thanks!

When I did this on every single bolt (yes, a moment of classic muppetry) I was lucky that every single "end" in the cylinder head was extracted using the end of a flat screwdriver in such a position to start tapping it in the right direction. Only one of them needed a drill, and that was a cinch as well. I think it's a good safety feature that they snap so easily to prevent seriously lodged endy-bits. :)

Yes, I'd expect that if the bolts were clean and free to move when refitted, they will be slack now as the heads have snapped off. As Devonutopia said just use a screwdriver you should be lucky enough to find that there is a stepped bit on the bolt shank that you can hit against, I've also used a masonary nail as well - to start to create a hole for the screwdriver to bit into - but take care as these nails are veeeery hard!
