skoda dealer closed on a sunday ?

Featured Replies

was in sheffield yesterday and popped to bickertons. i was amazed that they dont open at all on a sunday !! its a big dealership. so we popped down the road to chesterfield and found the tiny dealership was open. the bonus was that as they only had one member of staff running the whole show then he could come out on a test drive with us so just gave us the keys and told us to bring it back in an hour or so !!

Bickertons are open until 12 on Sundays. It is a bit weird. I forgot this yesterday and turned up at 2.

from their website :

Sales Department

Mon - Fri 8.30 - 6.00pm

Saturday - 8.30am - 4.30pm

Sundays Closed

Ahh, I walked up to the showroom and it said Sundays until 12 on the door. Must be out of date.

Ohh, no, I might pop down and see if I can see it, that's the colour I'm interested in.

its a lot darker than it looks in the brochure and on pics i have seen. in some lights it looked black to me. i was dissapointed as i thought it would be a nice bright cheery blue to go with the cream leather but looked as dark as i expected pacific blue to be.

I found that out too so I drove over to Chesterfield and found they were much better when it came to customer service and deals, so they got my order

Frankly 'we' all work far too long hours/days/weeks in this country and need to relax a lot more. My experience with the French Skoda network whilst on holiday opened my eyes to this, not only does the dealership shut on a Sunday but for a full 2 hours between 12 and 2pm everyday for lunch, and by this I mean locked shut and lights out!

The UK needs to adopt a more relaxed approach toward work imho.

yeah - but if you work all week and need time at the weekendto go test driving with the miussus and arrange for the kids to go to the grandparents its annoying when the dealer is not open.

Although I have sympathy with Makefish's argument, how can anyone who is serious about selling cars close on a Sunday?

thats why they need to employ more staff and work on a rota basis. all the staff get time off with family but sometimes they have to work weekends. unfortunately in any retail industry this is what you have to do. i am lucky that in my line of work we dont open weekends but in the past , when i worked in the food industry, we were 24/7 so weekend work was involved. as dan123 says - if you are serious about selling cars you really need to open sundays !!

they must be selling hundreds of cars a week ,so why bother open on a Sunday !!

I don't think any dealerships (not just Skoda) open on a sunday where I live.

Here! Here!

Glasgow dealer near me used to be closed on a sunday, then changed to just sunday mornings for sales. They've now transferred to another location so not sure now.

tbh, i took an afternoon off to test drive and buy the superb, much quieter during the week. Perhaps as the average age of skoda drivers decrease away from the retired people they will realise the advantages of opening on sundays. Certainly I'm just glad the city centre one is open from 8-6 weekdays so I can drop the car off

So the dealer should open on a Sunday so you can test drive the car and then go and order one from a broker?

And you find it annoying?

Just checking.

why do you care... you buy from a broker.... let them test drive you....

woudl you buy a pair of jeans without trying them on ?? would you buy a house without viewing it ??

of course i need to test drive it and can only do that with the dealer. i wanted to give the dealer the chance to put together a price that close to the broker. i am really not sure about buying from the broker and if the dealer can come close in price then i will happily buy from him. my local dealer is 1200quid more than the broker so i though i would give sheffield the chance to get a bit nearer. It would have helped if they had been open on sunday so i could have had this conversation with them.

I am likely to be buying direct from a dealer. not this one but another one who is a few hundred more than the broker but i feel more confortable buying direct after studying all the comments on this forum !!
