Service due soon, but service display not on.

Hi all,

Basically my car is due for a service in 27 days time (I reset the service indicator using the dash button method just over 11 months ago), but the service display hasn't come on. I was expecting it to come on when I got down to 30 days to go. I want to go back onto variable servicing - and bought a Ross Tech lead a few months ago so that I could do that. The question is, how do I reset it onto variable if it doesn't think it needs servicing. And then also why doesn't it think it needs servicing?

The background is that it used to be serviced by the dealer on variable intervals, then 2 years ago I serviced it myself and used the dash button to reset it onto fixed intervals. The indicator came on a year later as it should, and I serviced again and reset again the same way.

Since then I've bought VAG COM, and was puzzled to see the instrument cluster coding and service adaptation values all looked to be set to variable. Someone on here said that that was normal, though, and that the dash reset was just a separate parallel system that didn't change them.

I have changed the instrument cluster coding to try to turn off the seatbelt warning, but I haven't touched the service related bit of that coding or any of the service related adaptation values.

I'm wondering if re-writing the coding with the seatbelt warning off could have caused it forget about the dash reset and move back over to variable servicing as coded?

If I now set the coding to fixed and use the SRI tool to set the intervals to fixed, but without doing an SRI reset, would the service indicator then come on (as it's less than 30 days until a year's up)? If so, then I could just do the reverse and swap back onto variable and reset it in a couple of weeks time when I get round to doing the service.

Or is there another way of resetting it when it doesn't think it needs resetting?

Sorry this post is so long, and thanks in advance,

Alan
