Door Water Leaks

Featured Replies

Hi,

I notice during that recent heavy rain that water drips into the car via the top of both front doors past the rubber seals.

The seals seem unusual in that they lay on the outside of the car with the overlap pointing skywards. This seems like a design fault,

Has anybody else got the same issue or a cure?

Actually, it happened twice but seems to have sorted itself. Is it a continuous leak or just the odd drip?

Hi,

...about one drop every 2 minutes....

Honestly, I would get the dealer to sort it

true.. but I don't see what the dealer can do as the seal is so basic. The options are:

- apply a rubber lubcricant to ensure a better seal, but an unattractive option.

- fit a more flexible seal; not possible unless already tooled up by manufacturer.

- change design to seal downwards; problem as above

- accept the problem.

I may try some rubber lubricant if I can find a non-messy version.

The dealer can replace the seal for a start. It obviously not a epidemic so maybe it's a fault with the actual seal

The seal looks to be in very good condition, and I have found on other forums that this leaking from the top door seal is a known problem during heavy rain.

I had this problem with my roomy, very annoying when you spend nearly all day in the car, I took mine back to the dealer and they sorted it out and I've had no further issues

Dealer job. Sometimes its the seal, or it may be because the door is not tight enough or aligned correctly on the frame and you need to adjust the door latch and hinges. Had the same issue on my Golf which the dealer fixed under warranty.

I took our Roomster back to a dealer about 2 weeks after buying it, because the front passenger door seal was very noisy at about 60mph and above. They replaced the whole seal, and I seem to remember that they claimed it was "a known fault". It wouldn't surprise me if there was some sort of technical bulletin, not-quite-a-recall that dealers are aware of.

Follow the advice of other folks on this thread and get the dealer to replace it under warranty.

There was some review of the Roomster when it was launched that said the Skoda team showing the car to the journalists had to get a seal fixed to stop water getting inside. Let me see if I can find it...

This has cropped up before. There was a press demo car that gave a motoring journalist a wet **** at the launch.

Well I've had my Roomster for a few months now and have been very pleased with it, but recently after heavy rain the passenger seat had a damp patch where the door had leaked. The door had not been opened. The next day there was a similar patch. In fact, after heavy overnight dew it again leaked!

Pressing against the front corner rubber from inside produced a flow of water.

The door when opened showed that the "felt" along the top of the door was soaking wet and the seal to the body was wet.

The drivers door felt and rubber is completely dry.

I've had to wait a week for the dealer to take the car in. They've had the car since 8.30 this morning and have not been able to replicate the leak. They will keep it overnight and try again tomorrow. They seem to say that people just put up with this problem, even though it is a known fault. They won't replace the seals because they can't see that they leak. Once they had a Fabia for a week before they could get it to leak! Is this a joke or a record?

What can I do? It rains a lot in Cornwall. Does my new car need a Skoda brolly to keep dry? Help!

Sounds like a cr*p dealer. They should just replace the seal.

I'm slightly concerned that somebody found these... Begs the question of "why would anybody need them?"

I had my first wet experience with my Scout. Yesterday after heavy rain (not very often in Greece but it happened) when i push from inside to outside the door a few drops come inside. Is any way to fix it? it is a known issue? I have to pass over my local dealer for some spares and i will aske them, but it will better if anybody have any experience as i cant for the moment reproduce the problem.

Glad to see that it isn't just MK 1 Fabia owners who are visted with this problem:-

And now wer're loaning 'em billions !

Hello again, we have any news about this issue of door leaking? Here in Greece all dealers are surprised that this happening and they claim that never here about it :thumbdwn::thumbdwn::thumbdwn:. Have skoda made any improvements in door seals? is anyone of you that fix his problem can inform me also what to do in my local dealer please? Is any standard procedure that we have to follow?

No leaking door claim in Turkey too. This winter was very rainy compared to previous year, but no leaking Roomster report in Turkey. Interesting...

You can have your self a test with a rubber and let the water fall down from the roof all the way down from door window for a 2-3 minutes to check if some water drops are falling in front seats.

Nice hear from you Irfant ;)

Luckily my Roomy has survived torrential rain and a few carwashes with no leaks but I had a Mk4 Golf GTI turbo that had all kinds of issues. Over 60mph, a loud whistling noise started from behind my ear and if it was raining, water would drip on my shoulder. Static, it was fine. Try getting a dealer to replicate that!

They replaced the seals and realigned the door and it cleared up eventually.

I know people with all kinds of cars who have had leaky doors and boots - it just seems to be a factor of current mass production and tolerances. However the only car I had an issue with happened to be a VAG group car!
