Hi, Can I just make 4 heartfelt pleas? 1) Please spend 30 minutes reading the car manual, It answers nearly every query seen on the forums, and you will discover features that you never knew your car had. 2) When you change your headlight bulbs, please get them re-aligned before my eyeballs explode. Try and avoid fitting the blue/white instant headache bulbs. 3) Rediscover the benefits of using direction indicators; they require very little effort to use. 4) Front fog lights are not driving lights; the clue is in the name. Thank you for listening.
  2. At 25k miles my clutch clunk has got worse... It does not occur with the engine not running; it does not occur with the ignition just switched on. The engine has to be running. It has a heavy solenoid type of sound and is very audible even when standing well away from the car. I'm not sure that I can live with this noise on long journeys, and selling the car is going to be a problem. (I wouldn't buy it!)

Is this the same Skoda that put in no boot light, no illuminated door switches, a rattling bones gearbox, no arch liners, no soundproofing, candle power headlights, soft paint, semi- adjustable steering wheel, no spare wheel, and a satnav that has a mid-life crisis? ? I don't think that I would necessarily trust their judgement on the part-time heat shield (half on the car, half laying on the road)........

  8. I agree that the language and tone of the bulletin is not as would reasonably be expected. Perhaps it came from a very junior source within the organization, and is worth following up.
  9. From the manual: Uphill start assist system: The uphill start assist makes it easier to start off on steep hills. The system holds the brake pressure produced by the activation of the brake pedal for approx. 2 seconds after the brake pedal is released. The driver can therefore move his foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal and start off on the slope, without having to actuate the handbrake. The brake pressure drops gradually the more you operate the accelerator pedal. If the vehicle does not start off within 2 seconds, it starts to roll back. The uphill start assist is active as of a 5 % slope, if the driver door is closed. It is always active on slopes when in forward or reverse start off. When driving down- hill, it is inactive.
  10. No guard.... black air con pipe... loads of discoloured aluminium on that side of the engine. Now treated with WCF50 , but doesn't look like new. The guard is needed to keep all the winter salt spray etc out of the engine bay. I should add that the original Skoda explanation for the cover issue does not appear to be true. This may be to eliminate a recall, or just to cover an embarrassing factory error.
  11. I've noticed this as well, and it has to be coming through the windscreen demist vent. It seems likely that its plastic residue from the air ducts. I have also wondered whether this is related to the poor demisting performance by restricting any drainage ducts in the system. Maybe the thing to do is to leave the blower on full speed for 30 minutes and try to get it all out, and the pollen filter may need cleaning up.
  12. It's supposed to be a voltage regulator intended for use in conjunction with the stop/start system to suppress voltage spikes. Quite crudely fitted.
  13. I guess you're right ...I am more used to seeing them for exhaust tuning. In this case it's probably more for induction noise control (some owners report weird induction type wheezes and whines) , and providing a small amount of optimum rpm range assistance.

Keeping the clutch depressed was always frowned upon as increasing clutch bearing wear, and a long time ago would have failed you the driving test because of the risk that a slipped foot could be dangerous.. Even now, I never hold the clutch down at lights/roundabouts as I get it quickly into gear; especially with the very light citigo gearbox; When this results in frequent use of the stop/start, I switch it off, as wear is inevitably increased. (this extra wear cannot be avoided.. it's the laws of physics and chemistry). On the citigo, the additional wear is tolerated by using expensive starter motors and batteries etc, but I don't want to pay out high replacement costs outside warranty. If my car was a company car, I would not bother to turn off stop/start at all........ As it isn't, I do... and it needs to be stopped for more than 30 seconds to be a worthwhile saving.
  15. This is a bell-mouth air entry. It has a number of flow advantages, but also reduces airflow noise. ( It is a shape commonly used in public water supply systems, but works with air and fluids).
