RNS-510 & SD Memory Size - Go above 2GB

Featured Replies

I've read a few posts about the RNS-510 and the maximum SD capacity you can use.

Now as you're probably aware the RNS-510 appears to have a standard SD slot and not an SDHC.

So the basic thought is that the reader will read cards up to 2GB and that is it.

There are however 4GB NON SDHC cards available on the market - which should work in the RNS-510.

I had one for my old Dell Axim that only had a standard SD slot and it worked absolutely fine.

The problem is - only one company makes such an SD card which can make finding them a little bit difficult.

What you are seeing is a Transcend TS4GSD150

A quick search via Google and this is one such link:

Transend 4Gb150X Secure Digital SD Card: Transcend: Electronics & Photo: Amazon.co.uk

There is a slight premium to pay - but £22 isn't bad for 4GB as long as you can confirm the exact model number.

Another link is here:

TS4GSD150

However they know what they are selling is rare - £43!

Anyway, I'd seen many people saying that 2GB cards were the maximum.

I also appreciate that most people will be using up the 20GB of available space on the HD for music.

Just thought you might like to know about a way of getting a little more from the SD slot.

*Edit*

Found a much better price!

SD Card :: offtek - Secure Digital™ :: SD Memory Card

You can actually use 32gb SDHC cards in the RCD510, basicaly the same unit minus navigation and the HDD.

Aye - the lack of SDHC slot on the RNS510 I feel was a bit of an oversight.

I guess they assume you'll be using the 20GB of HD space more than anything - but the ability to plug in 32GB SD cards would have been nice.
