Featured Replies

hi everybody, after some advice, im going to look at a octavia vrs on thursday, low mileage, f/s/h, etc. but was wondering when the cambelt was due for replacement?

Which Octavia?

its a mk1 vrs 1.8 t.

The search button would bring up 60,000 miles or four years, and funnily enough that would be right.

brill thanks very much, might be able to use that to bring the price down.. its done 47,000 on a 2003, 52 plate. so it might have had it done already??

Should have been done two years ago.

will check the history. if not see how much he will knock off, i was told its 400 quid for a cambelt change. would do it myself anyway.

I'd charge a little less than that including the water pump.

But its not a walk in the park, quite a few pitfalls if you haven't done one before due to the lack of space.

done a couple of mk 4 golfs, an octavia 1.9 tdi that was fun...

Well the 1.8T is about twice as much fun as the 1.9, but your struggling with the same things. Just remember there is no way to lock the engine so be careful about moving the cam.

i know what is with that, every other cambelt iv done the is some way. not vag, they thought it would be fun just to leave it so you strugle your tits of trying to keep the timing marks lined up and put the belt on!!

Only the 16v petrols lock, its a pin but something you get used to when you have done a lot of them.

the last vag cambelt i did i put the car in gear, used a battery to stop one wheel moving, meaning i could use the wheel on the cambelt side to keep the crank in place. worked quite well.
