Canaries trapped in window seals?

Featured Replies

I mentioned this a few weeks ago in the A-pillar thread.

If I open the rear window on the passenger side I get a loud twittering noise above about 30 or 40mph in addition to the normal wind noise you would expect. It only happens on that window.

I spoke to the dealer about it. They have played round with it and only managed to reduce the noise by taping both sides of the seals together while the window is open.

I tried their courtesy car and that was exactly the same. I assume it is some kind of design fault rather than a fault specifically with my car. The dealer said that they wouldn't really know where to start to try to fix it, especially as their courtesy car does it too. They said that they would get in touch with Skoda UK to see if it's a known problem but suggested I also get in touch with them to put pressure on from both sides.

Before I do, I thought I would ask how many others out there are experiencing the same problem and would be interested to see if anyone has had this problem fixed.

If you have had the problem, could you post with details such as age of car, hatch or estate and whether it's just one window (which side?) or more than one.

I'll start. Mine is a May 08 1.9TDi '3' hatch. The courtesy car is a 08 reg 1.4TDI '2' hatch.

Thanks for your help.

I must admit, I don't tend to drive with the windows open, particularly not at fast speeds. The only noise I've noticed is a subtle whining noise when the climate control is on and the revs are low.

I never drive with the windows down, but when i get my estate ill be trying this. Dont think it would bother me though TBH, the normal noise of having a window down is annoying enough so i tend not to bother.
