Welcome and Insurance Question

Featured Replies

Hello Boys and girl's, i'm new here so welcome everyone! :)

I'm 18 at the moment and really want a Furb VRS. I can afford the car but it's just insurance i'm worried about. I went on Compare the Market and the cheapest quote they got for me was a bit over 3k

Anyone got any idea of how much i could get this down do if i shopped around? My dad would be main driver and he has had his license for yonks with no claims or points and im 18 and have driven my current car Corsa C 1.2 for a year now with one years NCB and no points aswell

Any 18 year old's out there with the VRS? I would like to know how much you pay.

Keep the Corsa for another year, or three!

Get more experience, more NCB etc and the price will come down... it's only group 9 anyway!

And welcome :)

Maybe once your bonus is better you can afford to insure a real vRS anyway?

That's exactly what I'm doing. We're in the same boat!

Insurance is a major pain at our age eh?

If your Dad is the main driver but you are going to be the keeper and driving it more, then you are breaking the law and risk losing the car and paying out ALL expenses involved in any claim.

Have patience and drive something more cash friendly till you have a few NCB's behind you and get the car you want legally.

There are hundreds of people who do this and have nice cars by the time they are 20 and have money and NCB that makes a difference.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Spot on... patience is a virtue, insurers will be happy to give you their business once you are 18 and have NCB, drive something slower (and cheaper) for a few years, this way you will gain experience and have chance to save some cash towards it too.

I was 19 when I got my Fabia VRS, before that I had a Clio 172 which was group 16.

I got rid of it for that reason the insurance was 3k and when I changed to the VRS it was a 1/3 of that.

Put your self as the main driver and add your parents, that reduces it by quite a margin.

Try Admiral or Bell. There the same company but ones usually a tad bit cheaper than the other

Now I'm 21 I'm hoping its around the £500 mark this time round

Hi mate try bell

and put either your mum or dad down as a 2nd driver i think you will be suprised mate

im 23 2 years no claims and im less than £300 lol!!

You've been driving on your own full licence for less than a year I'd guess, so don't try and drive a "sporty" car. Keep the low power car until you're 21 and get yourself 4 years NCB and protect it. Then you will find the prices will be sensbile.

If the insurance costs are going to be £3k per year and more if you have a bang, that should be a strong hint to you that they don't want to insure you on that car.

Im 19, no NCB, and pay £1700. I should think you shouldnt be too far from this price with a years NCB, when are you 19? That made a big difference to me.

chhers for the replys, guys, i've got a good 10 month's till im 19....I just got a quote off admiral for £1350, with my dad as main driver, and he would actually be using the veichle just as much as me aswell.

but you won't get the NCD at the end of the year, so you can expect the same price instead of a drop.

Bite the bullet and insure it on your own and see the discounts quicker, or settle for a slower car and get experience.
