Cleaning the throttle body

Featured Replies

I'm looking at the throttle body clean this weekend but does anyone know how I can make sure I tighten the bolts back to the correct tension afterwards? Do I need a special tool or is just a case of nice and tight?

Ta

I just do mine nice and tight !!!!!

I just do mine nice and tight !!!!!

Thanks once again mate. That's what I thought but some forums are giving me tension figures which I don't understand

Yeah they are torque values either in ftlbs or NM aka footpounds or newton meters.

Either way you would need a torque wrench. I've done a few TB cleans not just for myself and never had a problem using "nice and tight"

Don't forget you need a gasket and don't disconnect the throttle body as you will then need too re-align it (unless of course you have vagcom)

Cheers. Just ordered the gasket (only £1.67 from Skoda ) so should be ready to go on Sunday and I'm not going to disconnect the battery or the TB clip. Should I do the turn-ignition-on-brick-on-accelerator thing to get under the flap? It shouldn't move should it with it being DBW so you need to open the throttle? Ta

Either clean around it with a toothbrush or open the flap a little with your fingers(although I have been told not too before now but hey mine ain't broke)

BTW

I hold no responsibility if you break anything :):)

 Don't worry, there'll be no accusations from this quarter. I always take responsibility for my own successes/mistakes. I'm a bit nervous TBH but it looks simple enough.

Hi guys - just in case anyone looks at this thread and, like me, is inexperienced with mechanics :o, there's an excellent step-by-step with pics on the uk mk4 forum which I thought may be of use to some: How to : Clean your throttle body - uk-mkivs
