Nice attemps. Little too overcooked for my liking, but each to their own :)

I liked the less worked pictures best. The wood picture is really intriguing with the little stream buried under the leaves.

The river shot looks a bit like a spot on the Derwent at Rowlands Gill, where was it taken?

You guessed right, river shot is from Rowlands Gill. The woodland shots are from the plantation in Burnopfield and the waterfall shot is the waterfall that you can see from the road on the way down Lobley Hill bank just before the speed camera.

I think it was the shopping trolley that I recognised:D

If you look up the hill from Rowlands Gill, you will see a white fronted house with a large window half hidden in the trees (bloody neighbours!) that’s my mum’s house.

I like the last one quite a bit. I tried to play with HDR a while ago and couldn't get to grips with it. Nice work though.

I like the landscapes, I think they look better with the more subtle treatment:thumbup:

I am currently sat in my mums house in…………………………..Burnopfield.

This is Burnopfield St James Church. I had a little play with HDR on it, not really got the hang of it yet, but it does very clever things with the shadow detail:thumbup:all that foreground stuff was almost black in the original

These were my initial attempts. I've toned down the colours a little but they still look kinda naff

Really like the second batch Rob, they look like you have a fPolariser on the camera. I think HDR is at its' best around that sort of level.

Damoegan, your pictures have all disappeared??

Just spotted this thread, and yes, all the OP's photos have gone. Just has the PB 'moved or deleted' message?

I like your attempt though Lady E, that looks good. As you say, very nice foreground detail and then a nice, but not overdone, HDR effect capturing the church. Also works well on the tombstones, while adding a bit more interest to the picture. Top stuff

Does anyone have a guide or something I can learn to do HDR shots, as I can't quite seem to make it look anything near good.

Are my pics back now???

1st Post Pictures are working now

What about the rest now??

Some nice HDR work there.

Did you bracket all these shots using a tripod or did you just blend 2 or 3 jpg shots using a single RAW file at different exposures in post processing?

Just curious as some of the HDR shots, the sky is still blown out.

  • Author

I used bracketing as my camera doesn't nave RAW. Its only a 'bridge' camera realy, Finepix S1000fd, and I'm still learning. From what I can gather I need to use a filter to stop the sky from being blown out??

If you are bracketing and it still blows the sky out, you can meter on the sky but that would mean locking the meter while pointing at the sky before putting the camera on the tripod and taking the first shot.

That's assuming you can exposure lock on the camera you have. Alternatively, if you camera supports manual, then you can just increase the shutter speed to get the right exposure for the sky shot.

  • Author

It does have full manual mode. I dont realy know what you mean by 'exposure lock' and meter on the sky??

I'm still very new to all this. Full spec of my camera can be found here FinePix S1000fd Zoom Digital Camera from Fujifilm UK
