1.9 Tdi coil/engine management lights

Featured Replies

Hi

I have recently bought a Fabia 2 1.9 Tdi for use as a driving school car, the car has now covered 1500 miles teaching pupils to drive, I've been really happy with the extra performance and economy already ( my last driving school car was a Fabia 1.2 54hp model). The pupils love the new car but today one of my pupils stalled ( 4th gear instead of 2nd!) on re-starting, the engine management light came on accompamied by the coil warning light flashing, I rang my local dealer who said i would have to bring the vehicle in first thing Monday morning for them to check it over, I just wondered if anyone else has had the same thing, as you can imagine its sometimes quite hard avoiding a stall in a driving school car!.

Cheers :)

Check your manual - the lights that come on tell you where the problem lies and two lights together may well point to a particular fault. My manual isn't handy as my car lives in a rented lock-up garage a short walk from where I live.

Hopefully it's easy to fix, fingers crossed. I had an injector fail on my petrol Fabia last month, a rare fault and it was still back on the road within days despite the service department being really busy and the part having to be ordered.

Someone on the forum said that an injector failure is rare and normally occurs early in the ownership. There's not so much to go wrong with a diesel engine with there being no ignition system to worry about.

It's frustrating when a new car goes wrong, but to be honest - I was hugely impressed with the recovery by Skoda Assistance and the way the whole thing was dealt with.

Good luck!

Hi

Took the car to the dealer today and they say it needs a new "speed sensor"?, they're fitting it wedsnesday so I'll find out more about it then.

I have exactly the same issue with my 06 old shape 1.9 TDI Elegance. The coil light flashes, it happens particually when students stall in a crazy gear, 20mph in 5th, or going for 4th instead of 2nd at 5-10mph, especailly when it kangeroos!

Never had a replacement speed sensor, seems completely unnecessary!

Mine either goes after a while, but I notices it self checks itself, and if you start the engine then turn it off a NUMBER of times, it disappears!

My dealer couldnt work out what it was!
