Will the 'ebay' MFD2 fit in a Fabia II

Featured Replies

I've asked on the thread in the Octy section but obvioussly people in there dont know the Fabia II so well, so i figured i will ask in here instead. Obvioussly i would like a definitive answer before i spent £300+ on one of these units.

My Fabia II has the 'Dance' HU so what i was wondering really is, is the Dance HU the same size as the Audience HU in the Octavia. Looking at the connectors im pretty sure that the unit will fit, just unfortunately i wont have Maxidot functionality, but thats no massive loss.

Unit: 7" 2 Din Car DVD Player Bluetooth GPS SKODA OCTAVIA II on eBay, also GPS Systems, Navigation GPS, In-Car Entertainment GPS, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 16-Oct-08 22:40:59 BST)

No it wont unfortunately, the Fabia is only single din or 1.5 din depending on spec, whereas the MFD2 is not only much bigger, but a different shape too.

Sorry!

Actually Dance HU is a 2 -din unit. And he's talking about Fabia II.

I think I've seen somewhere a guide for fitting MFD2 to Fabia II. It should work but as Tom_vRS wrote, you'll might need a different surround for it.

Surrounds should be available also as you can choose Cruise -navigation as an option to Fabia II. That's exactly the same size as MFD2.

Think Fluff was going to have a play this weekend.

Oh, well looks like I'm wrong, ignore me!! I could have sworn the Fabia 2 was a 1.5DIN unit.

Downtime is right Tom, its definitely a 2 DIN unit in my Fabia II, but its not square so was just wondering whether it would fit. Ill have to ask a dealers if there is a fascia adaptor that will fit.

Yeah he says he is with a Roomster, but uses Dance HU so if he can manage it i think i might take the plunge on payday.

Do you not have a Dance HU in your Fabia?

Here's some pictures of the radios. You'll see if there´s a difference easily.

Skoda Cruise, fits Roomster and Fabia II.

And Skoda Nexus a.k.a MFD2. Exactly the same size and shape as Cruise RNS.

Dance HU, Roomster and FabiaII.

Sorry about the large pictures.

Yeah i do, meant that he is trying in a different car, but it uses the same HU. Sorry, wasnt very clear there.

He is ..... hopefully this weekend. If I can arrange to meet up with Mater, we are going to test a columbus in my Roomster and see what happens.

The Roomster uses the same 2 din dance unit as fitted to the Fabia 2 :)

You say 'difference' but i dont notice any difference, they all appear to look the same to me.

And im write in thinking that if the columbus fits the ebay knock off will fit too?

Only thing though, will i lose the use of the rear parking sensors?

Well if the columbus fites, the ebay knock of should, you will lose (if the dance has it) the visual display of the parking sensors but not the beeps

Fit and work are two different things though :)

Very different, which is why i dont want to spend £300 on something that might not work, but if the columbus works i imagine the knock off would too. After all it is supposed to be a copy and the two are interchangeable in the octy.

Sorry. I meant "see if there's a difference" :) I was in a hurry when I wrote that.

I edited the original post.

Will be interested to see the results of the Columbus "swap"

Then on second thought my wallet won't :D

Any news gents?

Any news gents?

Not as such, I never got the chance to meet up with Carl, I had a ton of stuff to do when I got back from Hamburg on Friday, Saturday, Football, Dance, Horse Riding then Blackpool, Sunday, back to Hamburg :(

BUT, I have bought one / am in the process of buying one after an interesting conversation via Email with one of the guys selling Columbus's on Ebay. He has had them go into a Roomster without any real issue, it's only the Tel Mute and the Aux cable that needs a little juggling (just like when they revised the Stream MP3 in the Octy's) and now advertises them as for Roomster also.

Puzzles me why Skoda don't offer the option of a columbus instead of that horrbile looking thing you can have :)

So, hopefully, I will have a Skoda Green Witson to play with this weekend and have got a leave pass off the mrs for car tinkering and will do a basic guide if all works well like I did when swapping out the Dance / RK8200.

The other thing is, that if it works in a Roomster, I am not 100% sure it will work in the Fabia II as you never know, Skoda could have tinkered with the electronics a bit (unlikely I know), he has never had anyone (mr Ebay) fit one to a Fabia.

More as it happens :)

Good Good.:D

Been meaning to find the balls to do this myself but have been a bit short lately. However my Tom Tom is now 6 years old and is near enough dead so this is a good excuse to upgrade :)

I am skint as well mate :) I sold my Z1000's Supercharger on Eblag and some of the cash from that has been .....errm ..... diverted :)

I have a good feeling about this, looking at pinouts etc I am pretty confident :)

The witson unit should fit more readily, as it does not use canbus technology. As long as the shape is the same and it fits the hole then the connections on the witson should be a doddle.

The only issue I see with a Columbus/MFD2 is with regards to the canbus version, but this can be worked around as well.

I wish i never asked about this now lol.... i have the cash but it needs to go towards a ring, not frivilous car purchases.... stupid temptation.

The Roomy has the can hi/lo wires present in the quadlock Mannyo and the dance has the canbus pinout's as well. The Ebay guy said he has sold several coumbus's (columbi?) to non UK roomster owners and were virtually plug n play
