Tesco....mod friendly??

Featured Replies

As the title suggests, anyone here with tesco and modded octy RS.Just had my renewel from greenlight and for some bizarre reason they want

Dash,

I recently declared my mods to Tesco insurance (who use direct line, AFAIK). Alloys and springs (they didn't do anything about the brakes) added

Under 25's modding are a no no with any RBoS related insurer (Direct line, Churchill, Tesco, Privilage)

That's not actually true :P Scooby was insured with them - policy holder was 22 and I was 24 and it had full stainless steel replacement exhaust and bigger aftermarket alloys, replacement stereo, uprated discs, pads, calipers and fluid, tinted windows and fully colour coded. They wanted about an extra 100 quid a year for that lot.

Now, I'm older and wiser (well a little ;)) I have my Fabia insured with them and for replacement springs they wanted an extra 100 quid. Will be looking elsewhere come renewal time ;)

I went to Adrian Flux from Tesco after I modded my car. When I cancelled Tesco I was asked why I changed and upon given the reason (as I wasnt expected them to care about modded vehicles) he said that I should have given them the benefit of the doubt... to me that sounds they are willing to consider it.

Tesco...........nooooooooooooooooo!

Ive heard of lots of probs peeps have encountered with them from reading through the forums im on, infact I myself had to contend with a cockup of monolytic proportions when i was insured with em,which concerned the cars thatcham security rating.

The ombudsman ruled in my favour, out of court settlement made, but still to this day they appear not to have corrected there computer database as the same prob keeps cropping up time and time again on the forums)

IMHO peeps shop around for the best quality car they can afford for the money normally, why peeps just go for the cheapest when it comes to car insurance is beyond me?

Modified or not, you would be advised to steer clear of Tesco insurance.......well clear.

But was it already modded? when I went to mod, they said they would not cover me until I was 25 (next year). This was direct line, but I hadf also asked Tesco.

When we bought it it had aftermarket alloys on, but also came with the standard 16"'s. We asked for a quote with and without and they had no probs. Then continued to mod it ;)

As with all insurers there are good and bad stories. I've had no probs with Tesco and they paid out a hefty sum for a claim too ona modded car without quibbling, so I have no problem in recommending them :)

However, their quote for a remap was a little more than Liverpool Victoria, so I may be taking my custom elsewhere come renewal time ;)

Chris

SCoobyChris, just out of interest, how much more did they quote for a remap?

just got a Vrs and i'm keen to pay a visit to Jabba asap

With good postcode and 0 NCB (long story ;)) they wanted an extra 250-300 quid  I think the problem is expected horse power gains are in the region of 50bhp which is half the existing power of the PD100 engine again.........

You might find that with more NCB, cost is significantly reduced...... :)

Chris

Cheers Chris, i'll just have to give 'em a ring and try my luck (if i have any)

Granted, any insurance company given half the chance would happily shat on you from a great height with no remorse, perhaps thats why my insurance cert is the thickness of the bible when it comes to listing all my mods. LOL

From what ive experianced though the words "TESCO" and "insurance **** up" go hand in hand, I know of lots who have been in the same boat as me,not that ive been on a quest to desuade potential customers away, nor can be bothered with the hassle.

"Tesco Insurance have proven to me that they are not fully aware of the exact specification of vehicles they are insuring" (this statement came from the ombudsman in my case btw peeps)

for the record my car was standard when insured with Tesco.
