HELP!! How to change a tyre for dummies!!

Featured Replies

I'm sure i'm not going mad, i'm sure i'm not going mad.

Changing my 18's back to standard 17's but for some reason, fronts have gone on fine but the rears just won't slot on.

The wheels just won't sit flush with the hub

Whats wrong?

The standard 17's going on are not my original ones (the car came on 16's i've since sold), could they be different?

Inside the wheel their stamped ET38, PCD100 7x17 which i'm sure is correct.

Any ideas?

Maybe you are going a little mad ;)

Are all Octavia hubs the same or is there a differnce between, standard, VRS, Estate and 4X4 hubs, which might cause this problem?

Not sure how much help this is, but hope someone out there has some ideas as i'm waiting for those 18's :D

They all have the same size hubs.

Make sure you got all the centre inserts (if used on your old wheels ) off the hub. Sometimes they stick. They are used to reduce the size of the centre hole so that it fits snuggly agains the hub and can sometimes stick. Usually plastic.

Yes i checked for inserts but the 18's didn't use them.

Very very confused now!!

Why won't standard wheels go on?

Did the old 18"s need spacers that have been left behind/stuck to the hub?
