Economy Restored!

Featured Replies

...no not the world Economy, that's still fooked.

The indicated fuel economy in my Fabia vRS had taken a nosedive from about 55mpg on my usual work run in slow motorway traffic to about 40mpg.

I found that the EGR was leaking and got a new one replaced under warranty - economy is now restored :).

Whilst they were at it my local Skoda garage also found a fault on the motor for the heater flaps - so I got a new one of those as well!

Hummm.

Mine has dropped badly too, from around 55-57mpg, to 37-40mpg!!

But ive got a new EGR!

Whats going on?

Dave

if you have just had a new egr, could be the maf.

mine's gone down a bit too over the last month and a half. Might have to check EGR and MAF...

Check your tyre pressures. Now the weather's gone cold, they are probably well under pressure if you haven't checked them in a while. all four tyres, six or seven psi under will drop your fuel economy by about 8mpg!

Tyres are good, might get a new MAF, just to be sure. It is 5.5 years old now, and got 62k on (done 20k this year!). Or maby just clean in if there cleanable??

Ive seen bigger MAF's put on other TDi's to get up the breathing, (but youve gota map it after to get the fueling right),

Anyone on here done that? If so, more info would be good.

have you checked your air filter?

my fuel economy had also take a nosdive recently - checked the tyres today and the fronts were out by about 8psi, the backs by 4 or 5.

Hopefully now I've pumped them up things'll be back to normal - shame we can't do a similar quick fix on the price of Diesel

Hmmmmm. Mines dropped too recently. Tyres are OK, and the car seems to lack power at higher revs on occasion/ feel rougher at higher revs too. Maybe it’s just me being paranoid, but I’m starting to worry. Any ideas anyone? I’ll check the tyre pressures again first thing tomorrow. Hopefully it’ll be cold and dry for a good reading.

Tyres checked, and ok.

Filter checked, and ok.

Hummm.

Wonder if its worth checking fuel filter, although thats only 4months old!

Ha. Might have the problem...

Seems to be fumes coming from the manifold area when idle, but not when revving.

Manifold gasket me thinks.

.....and now it's gone down again, it was okay for about a week much smoother and responsive. Maybe it's the MAF - do these give a fault code if they're not working correctly? How can I check if it's FUBAR? Worryingly it also seems to be down on power as well.

Have checked air filter and tyres.

What's going on?

I think it's partly down to the outside air temperature, as I've had this problem too and it seems to be more obvious on colder days than warmer.
