Nearside Lights keep coming on

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Got my first SKODA (Roomster 3 1.4TDI) last weekend. Really, really pleased with it. It is my first 'new' car and I love it to bits.:)

One thing puzzling me though is that a couple of times this week I have pulled up and opened the drivers door to find that the light warning gong has gone off. On investigation I have found the nearside lights on (only). I did not have any lights on at the time, as it was daylight. I could only reset them by switching the lights on and off again.

Does anyone know if this is a 'feature' or do I have to take it back to get them to fix it?

Did you leave the indicators on by any chance?

If so, that's the reason - a safety feature.

Cheers gadgetman:thumbup:

Just checked again and that must be what has happened. This car is far too intelligent for me.

Your not the first to do it, so don't worry :D

I thought that's been a standard feature on cars for years? I have a basic P reg Polo that has it and all other cars I've owned for the past 15 years have had it!

Yes, it is standard for many years....

Not all makes have this feature, think it is only German brands that have had this function for years.

My 1972 Ford Cortina 1.6 GXL had it.

It's supposed to be a parking light so people can see you parked in unlit streets. The only trouble is they haven't re-engineered it for right-hand drive (offside light should be on)so it kind of defeat the object:confused:

I think you will find that:

Left hand indicator puts on left side parking lights

Right hand indicator puts on right side parking lights

Hmm. I have only had second hand cars before, but I have never had this 'feature' before. Hence sounding so thick.

I cant believe it is meant as a 'parking' light arrangement though, as if so it would make sense to put the opposite lights on to the indicated direction methinks.

But how does the car know which way it's facing? ;)

Would any law abiding Skoda driver park on the wrong side? Surely not! ;-)

Of course, being LHD or RHD is entirely irrelevant. If parking on the left you simply select 'turn right' just before turning the ignition off, and vice versa.

It is indeed for models sold in Germany. They have parking restrictions for leaving the car at night without lights on. I'd love to have a recovery firm in Germany to keep up with all the flat batteries!
