Boost Switch

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a boost switch fitted? Also the the octavia come with a boost gauge?i didnt recall one on the test drive.

One thing I haven't seen yet is a vRS with a dump valve. I guess they're normally reserved for those people with their XR3's?

All 1.8T engines have dump valves. However they are all "re-circulating" dump valves which means the excess boost is vented back into the air intake, not to atmosphere. Hence no "whooshy" noises.

It was that wooshing noise I was thinking of. I don't much see the point in them anyway because they're less efficient than recirculating the boost. I still have fond memories from my A-level era, of one of my mates first cars, a Renault Fuego with a boost guage and switch. I seem to remember the guage was normally bending the needle at maximum acceleration. Big grin factor involved :D

Yep the RS has a DV , its a horrid plastic thingy which is prone to failure , its a diaphragm based one , not the piston type that you can buy from Forge ect. The jury is still out for me on whether an uprgaded DV is worth the money , or whether its better just throwing another stock plastic cheapy on if your original fails.

Funny you should mention the XR3 , i was gonna say that you mean the RS Turbo escort not the XR3, untill i remembered that Turbo Technics done a turbo kit for the XR3i for a while , untill the RST came out and killed the demand for the kit...I wonder how many turboed XR3is are left on the road now?...single figures maybe?
