Climate control system smells damp since service

Featured Replies

Car on variable had first service last month.

The climatic control still smells damp/mouldy on anything less than 20C. Had this on the works mondy, but this went after a few days. The Octy seems to smell the same/worse.

Any solutions before I rant at the dealer?

It usually goes away when the pollen filter is changed, mine smelt like new when it was changed on a major service.

Does it smell of Tom cats? Could be the mechanic has marked it's terrority so to speak on the test run.

Whenever my air-con smells damp I run it on full while squirting dettol in through the air intake below the windscreen. The car smells like a hospital for a while then goes back to normal (i.e. fresh) Probably not the best way but is certainly cheap and easy. When I've changed the pollen filter before its always smelled much cleaner though

Pollen filter should/would have been changed on 18k variable service?

It's a private lease, so I dont see any paperwork - all goes to Lex.

My pollen filter wasn't changed on it's first variable but it was done on the second. The service book should detail what should/shouldn't be done on each service.

The book said it should have been changed on both the Octy II we had, and on neither of them had it been changed. I got the filters and DIY (It's under a sliding door, under the foam, under the glovebox in the passenger footwell.)

Makes a huge difference to clean smells and general niceness when it is changed. The one that came out was black and full of bits of leaf :(

Thanks.

I'll moan at the dealer then, and if no joys, Lex.

I will give the dealer I used at the time the benefit of the doubt and say they they hadn't actually charged me for the part when they hadn't fitted it.
