evaporative emission charcoal cannister

Featured Replies

my octy 2001 2.0l petrol was running badly and after help from this forum i replaced the MAF,cars running fine now but there's a beeping sound coming from the evaporative emission control cannister, this was happening before i replaced the MAF,it seems to be when the engines warm.it continues when engines switched off.i can hear it when i'm out of the car and if the car is left for a while then when i go back it's stopped!!! i repeat car seems fine but this is doing my head in!!!! any help would be much appreciated:):thumbup:thanks in advance:D

The charcoal cannister stores petrol vapour. It is released into the inlet under control of the ECU. The purge valve on the top of the cannister controls the release and only does so when the engine is warmed up. It sound like the purge valve is on its way out. You can prise it out of the tank and attempt to clean it. If you use IPA or similar make sure it has gone before putting it back. Loosen the petrol filler cap before attempting to remove the valve

thanks,if its tha purge valve any ideas where to get one :D

Ask for a price from the local dealer. It may not be too bad and it could work out cheaper a used part after postage is taken into account.

For a used part try the local dismantler or an online company such as skospares.

The purge valve is the part that the cable connects to on the cannister
