Strange Columbus map problem

Featured Replies

I recently did the map update to V3 and all went well with the update process, but now I have another issue.

My MFD3 is a skoda unit with green display/lighting and skoda part number. Prior to the V3 update my unit showed Skoda service centres as a POI, now with V3 for some reason these have been replaced by VW ones. Looking at the map DVDrom, it does contain the skoda service centres but decided to copy VW ones over for some reason.

Hi Mannyo,

Mine did the same! Did you buy your unit new or off the 'tinternet? I have a theory that some are returned units (ones that developed a fault, but were fixable) & that they canabalise them to make a useable unit (I know some one who worked for an electronic comapany who was doing this!!!). In that case some of the electronics might remember they were in a WV branded unit before! When the disk is inserted, the FW should recoginse the brand of car the unit is in and install the correct data, AFAIK!

Mine now also starts up saying "Volkswagon Navigation"! I'd be interested if there is a fix too, just 'cos it's "one of those things"!

Mine still comes up with the skoda logo, but yes it was purchased online and is used. I may try and see if I can work round it by using the POI program in another thread to replace the VW service centres with Skoda ones.

Mine was purchased new and after the V3 disk suddenly wanted to become VW.

Not too sure why either as I know the update disc I used was sucessfully used elsewhere.

Sounds like the update procedure is perhaps using a script that they wrote first for VW-equipped cars and then didn't change it for the rest of the group! Especially if the Skoda files are on the disc :)

Is there a way you can just copy the Skoda POI files over manually?

Steve

Mine did it the other way around. Have a RNS510 (VW, with VW startlogo) and the V2 maps. It automatically showed and shows the skoda dealers?

I think I have found the file, and what to change to fool the skoda POI's onto the columbus

In folder, D:\tpd\ntcWeu_eu_20070806\ENG there is a file named eng.lsc, and it contains this.

CAR-BRD 20 40020

CAR-BR 20 VOLKSWAGEN

CAR-BRD 22 40022

CAR-BR 22 SEAT

CAR-BRD 23 40023

CAR-BR 23 SKODA

If I can pluck up courage, I may try changing it to:

CAR-BRD 20 40023

CAR-BR 20 SKODA

CAR-BRD 22 40022

CAR-BR 22 SEAT

CAR-BRD 23 40023

CAR-BR 23 SKODA

which should in theory load the 40023 (skoda stations) in place of VW ones

So it looks like they may have Skoda/VW the wrong way round. I wonder how many VW's are now driving round with skoda stations.

I wonder if fiddling with these lines a little maybe all thats needed, although the issue maybe elsewhere. I have attached the file zipped if anyone wants to have a play.

These lines appear to contain what to load for seat/skoda and vw.

Wow! Keep me posted on how this goes, I've been watching this thread (& othes in VW Navi forum), but I think it excedes my level of computer literacy by a mile! I lost it at the creating ISO images bit!!!!!

Sorry Mannyo, mine still has the Skoda logo on the Columbus, but if you start up the car with the Columbus in the "Maps" mode it shows "Volkswagen Navigation" in the MaxiDot!

I think the problem is that the unit thinks it is VW and based on that loads the VW dealerships as POI's.

It might be worth someone trying a Skoda V3 disk to see if that makes a difference. I know it shouldn't but you never know.

Hedge, its interesting to see magic62's post where he has a VW unit and it loaded skoda POI's.

I bet if he starts it up with radio (or audio can't remember) selected on the Maxidot it will say Skoda as mine says VW Navigation the same as Uncle Bulgaria.

I have created a modified eng.lsc file and it seems to work correctly with the poi edit program mentioned in another thread.

I have done the neccessary, so may test it at some point running from the DVD and see if skoda stations now display. Anyone know where there is a skoda dealer and not a VW one.

Dennis Horton is Skoda only.
