PDA backup software?

Featured Replies

Hi to All

Just started using the MWg Zinc II phone / PDA. It is a Windows Mobile 6.1 pro device. My last smartphone had a utility called xBackup. This transferred a snapshot of my contacts and appointments (or more if needed) to the additional SD card so that should the device lose its stored data, it was a simple matter to reinstate it.

The new phone has no backup utility. Anyone recommend a good one?

Chris

I remember xbackup on pocketPC 2003

I think Activesync has a similar util

WM5 on my XDA exec doesnt have it

Havent looked at the mobile device centre in Vista yet either.

Newer PDAs store the data so it's not lost if the battery goes flat like on older devices. But it doesnt say anything about unexplained hard resets.

I haven't had this yet with my exec but it happened with my older XDA2S once or twice!! prob what made me back up in the first place.

My old device was WM 5 and had xBackup. I need to have the important data secure. I can run regular syncs, but this can be an issue. In the past, I have had Outlook bin all past appointments on sync. This is bad if you are using the data for your accounts. Luckily xBackup came to the rescue on that occasion.

Sprite backup. Nothing else touches it IMO.

Sprite Software - Backup and Security Software for Windows Mobile

Remember though that being WM5 or 6 designed device, you wont loose data even if the backup battery goes flat - unlike older windows CE versions.

I lost data from my WM5 device after dropping it. The battery fell out and cleverly, the backup and main battery were both in the same unit. I have since removed the battery and replaced it without data loss though, so could have been the impact did something. The device has been reliable ever since. What does occasionally happen is that outlook on the PC decides to erase the old appointment records and syncs the devices, so all the old appointment records are lost. The system did this when I uploaded my diary to the new device for example (I had exported a file so I have not lost records).

I was looking at the sprite system. Have you used it on the a mobile?

Chris

Used it on PDA's upto my current HP without issues. Only the lite version though.

The full version looks like my next late night net purchase!
