Curretly editing a video on Premiere Pro

But working with 2 lots of footage is a little tricky.

Whats the best way of doing it - wditing footage off one camera before bringing the second one in?

I'd gather all of the footage together first because it'll give you a better idea of which bits to drop in where. You can then pre-cut it to get the most useful bits sorted before you start arranging them. If you're working from a 2 camera shoot, just drop an extra timeline in, have both tracks synced and simultaneous, and chop sections out of one track to cut to from the other.

Long term, it's also worth considering investing in a double head GFX card and a second monitor and running your clip and parameter windows on one, and your timeline and previews on the other. It's like night and day.

An extra timeline?

I should probably have said 'track', apologies for that. I've been helping a volunteer plan her first teaching session on the basics of video editing, and that's geared at Movie Maker so I'm struggling to let the terminology go :)

I think Premiere Pro allocates two associated video & audio tracks by default, with one title track. I generally tend to use at least one video track for graphical overlays so I automatically add one if I'm cutting a two camera shoot together.

ergh never could get on with that Adobe tosh, give me a copy of Sony Vegas any day, then again i dont use photoshop either i use paintshop pro must be a aversion to Adobe :)

I used to use a Sony Editstation when I was doing TV stuff, but apart from a very snazzy realtime FX board (for the time) it was horrendous.. ran under NT 3.51, used some bizarre external SCSI storage with a weird interface and bog-all space when it came down to it, and had the most unusuable and non-standard software imaginable.

My personal recommendation now is for Premiere Elements - you can pick it up for about £75 and it has 80% of what's available in the full version in an easier to handle interface. If you can get the Premiere Elements / Photoshop Elements bundle for under a ton it's the software bargain of the decade.

I've used power director in the past which was pretty goon newbiw software. ripped the footage off the camcorder, chaptered and chopped then put on dvd.

I recommend trying AVID.
