Very annoying rattle - Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all,

got a dead quick question.

I've got a terribly annoying rattle coming from behind the dash somewhere on my Fabia vRS (53 plate). It sounds close to the front (i.e. it is quite audible) and sounds like two pieces of plastic coming together. It happens whenever I go over a bump in the road.

It's definitely not the issue I've seen posted on other threads (the one behind the air vents in the centre console). I've had the air vents out and all seems fine behind there. The rattle is coming from elsewhere.

It seems to be coming from behind the dash, towards the left hand side of the dials. Is there anything behind there it could be? I don't really want to start taking the dash off cause I'll probably make a dogs dinner of it.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Its the dashboard centre mount I reckon. Take the centre vents out and pack the bracket with a bit of rubber (like an inner tube or something). Common fault and well documented on here. :)

Check your seat belts clips, they can vibrate against the centre consol (down near the handbrake) and the sound is so non directional it sometimes isn't obvious!

Cheers folks. I took it out for a good drive last night, and it does appear to be coming from round the air vents (SWMBO was with me, but she's not much use to be honest). I had a look in there a couple of days ago and all seemed well, but I might have to dig around in there tomorrow once this weather has settled down.

Seat belt clips will be checked as well.

Seat belt clips will be checked as well.

If you had a passenger (wearing their seatbelt) and it was still doing it, it will be unlikely to be the seatbelt clips, as they get pulled away from the console...

Quick update.

A few expletives and bruises later, the foam is now in position; however, the rattle persists :(. I noticed underneath the "top-hat" bracket behind the air vents there's a bolt hole (with no bolt ) for what I presume is nothing more than a grub screw. Daft question, but should there be a screw in there....?

With that in mind, it's a trip to Halfords later for some radio keys. I'm hoping the screw (if there was one there!) has somehow worked its way loose and is no rattling around somewhere behind the radio!

First thing to check with any kind of dash rattle is the two tiny rubber pads under the bonnet lip about a foot in front of where it hinges either side.

They are known to get loose and cause all sorts of dash rattles that never get sorted as it wasn't the dash rattling in the first place...
