Featured Replies

Painted a bonnet today, no particular reason, bugger all work on, and a corsa bonnet lying round.

Thought i'd have a play with some different effects.

I have done a water drop effect on the black but with a tinted lacquer you cant really see it.

Was thinking about putting some candy on it but was nearly home time so i just lacqured it.

Makes me laugh, here's me doing airbrushing, custom effect's as well as regular car/bike painting,

and they have laid me off for some lad who is on the same wages and struggles to paint regular cars.

That looks great, I really like the paint effect :cool:

Sorry to hear your news though.

Agreed, on both counts : You can knock out work like that just to kill time and are out of work :eek:. Am sure something will come along soon

I would do. But i dont have the equiptment to do it my self.

Think i'll just keep practicing airbrushing and custom work, as a hobby.

I know it's been mentioned before, but why not work for yourself as a van based paint repair person? Looking at the bonnet you obviously have the skill to do a great job.

Failing that how much for a total respray as I'd drive up to get a job that good.

The thing is, when working as a mobile repairer.

You cant buy quality solvent paints anymore because of new laws,

so waterbased or UV is the only way to go, which means you have to 2K lacquer. Its a ball ache working with waterbased and 2K outside, i had enought of it when working for Shine.

As for UV (Ultra Violet) paint, its 3 time more expencive then waterbased.

I'll keep everyone posted if i do get another job in a bodyshop.

That looks like galvanised steel - not a finish I ever thought I'd see on a car :) Maybe the rat-rod crowd might be interested in trying out a new look.. zinc-rod :)

That is a very nice bit of work. I can not believe that a body shop would pay off someone with your skills. If I had the money I would have something similar done to my Felecia.
