VAG-COM v409 on 2007 Octavia

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently purchased an el-cheapo OBD-II to USB lead from eBay. It's just a USB-to-serial lead in disguise, I guess. Anyway, it seems to work fine with the shareware version of VAG-COM, version 409.

At least, on a 1998 Polo, it can read fault codes, engine and instrumentation data.

However, on a 2007 Octavia I thought it would do all sorts of exciting things - but it doesn't. It seems to work fine for the engine control module, but nothing else.

Is there anything I can do to let me at the more interesting stuff? Comfort settings, etc. I could believe that this version of VAG-COM is too old for the car, but the newer ones don't seem to support my simple cable. At least that's what they say...

Thanks.

I think you need a CAN-Bus cable and a later version.

Thanks. I was hoping that wasn't the case :)

Strange that the engine functions work fine though. Oh well.

That is beause the engine functions do not need to use the can-bus. everything else does. The only place to buy a lead that will work fully is direct from Ross-tech or their uk supplier.

a micro can lead from ross tech is what you need and is the cheapest one there that will work on your car mate

I'm very pleased I bought the HEX+CAN a few years ago: My new car is a Seat Leon, so needs CAN-bus, but we also have a Lupo, so the Micro-CAN would be no good for me.
