225 tyres instead of 205 ????

Featured Replies

Just wondering, is it possible to fit 225 tyres or at least 215 tyres on rims that are 16' with original 205 tyres (Octy2 Elegance 140TDi)?

Wheels are OEM Skoda, came with car from new.

The original 16" rims are 6.5J, you can safely fit 195-215 mm tyres.

I wonder if they will catch at all, on the damper, on the inner arch when on lock?

The 17" wheels are 225 width and the OD is the same, otherwise you'll have to readjust the speedometer when putting on the winter wheels. In other words: no.

Widest I fit on 6.5" rims would be a 205, personally. Why do you want to change, out of interest?

Well, my next Octy will be either "Exclusive" that is L&K name used here in Portugal, that comes with 17' and 225, or "Elegance" that comes with 16' and 205. I'd go for "Exclusive" but I don't want sport suspension again. I'd like 225 tyres so I'm trying to make compromise. I was thinking of going to "Exclusive" but asking for 16' wheels...

Well, "Exclusive" is fully equiped with all toys Octy can have, minus Sunroof and NAV. It's 3000 euros more expensive then "Elegance" but problem, for me, is sport suspension. So, it's big confusion now.

The best would be, for me, "Exclusive" but with normal suspension. But I doubt I can order such a car.

What do you think about placing such an order? Would they think I'm an idiot?

The customer is always right :)

Would you be prepared to swap for an aftermarket suspension setup, something like Eibach springs and Koni FSD dampers?

Or order an Elegance and then order the 17s from the dealer, or buy them yourself later?

Well, I wouldn't mess with the car if they don't do it in factory. Messing by myself (not me but non-Skoda garage) and installing aftermarket suspension would invalidate warranty.

Problem with Elegance is that the toys I want would cost me almost the difference to Exclusive (Xenons, Audience, Sound System etc, etc). When the day comes to sale it no one cares if I've had extra toys. Price would be by the book for Elegance. That's the reason I'd like Exclusive with normal suspension.
