Hi all, some advice please

Featured Replies

Hello to everybody, this is my first time on here.

I need some advice. I have a vRS with Xenon lights and both my side lights have blown. I went to my local skoda dealership and he quoted at least £50 (probably minus VAT) to have them replaced (they are sealed units and have to be dismantled to change the blown bulbs). This seems extortionate.

I don't want to do it myself as i'm not great with this kind of thing, but how long a job is it, and how much should they be quoting me for a job like this. Im based in London so prices will be higher.

Also, I'm tempted to have my carpet changed as I think that my car may have had water damage in its lifetime and there are tell tale signs. How much should I be looking at for a main dealer to do this, and is it a big job?

Thanks

I take it you have a Fabia vRS? Changing even halogen bulbs is a major PITA, and I gather it's even trickier with the xenons, so the dealer's probably about right. Then again, the manual is your friend in these matters, so I'd take a look what it says, and then think about having a go yourself.

Changing the carpet is a pretty serious job, so I'd only consider doing it if it was damaged or smelly beyond redemption. I'd be inclined to hire a Vax and give it a good clean...

Welcome to Briskoda, by the way! :)

Ok thanks guys. I've just been to see a local garage and he recons he can change the lights a lot cheaper than Skoda, so gonna go with him. It's an 2004 Octavia BTW. Also, spoke to Skoda about the carpet, £128 to buy, but another £380 to fit!! Think I'll be having a go with the VAXC idea :)

Welcome :)

Welcome mate. If you're anywhere near Hampshire, I have a VAX!!!!! Seriously, that and some vanish has to be easier than removing all the seats, buying a new carpet, taking the old one out and fitting.....!

welcome along
