People who've used EBC redstuff...

I've recently fitted some EBC redstuff with standard discs (zimmerman). How long did it take for others to have their pads to bed in/feel good? I've done 4-500 miles so far and whilst they sometimes feel good (good feel, progressive), they also sometimes feel cack (soft pedal feel, braking feels like it comes in later). Possibly due to not enough heat in them? I've been through the official bed-in procedure. Its a little disconcerting and makes judging braking difficult in traffic.

Mine felt sharper than the OEM ones from the moment I had them fitted and have stayed that way ever since, now done around 3000 miles on them.

I've never had heat issues and they were always better from cold.

I'd say they were as good as OEM as soon as I got the car (garage had had a bed in run in them) and then after I did a proper bed in run they are much much better.

I now run 312mm brakes with the reds though as i felt the 288mm setup wasn't up to the job.

Cold they are a bit better than OEM, once you have some heat in them they are much better than OEM and in the wet they are a lot more predictable and seem to still work better than the OEM.

Interesting. Just been for a spin and the feel has varied. If you stand on the brakes it really does stop well, kicking you out the seat. Way better than the useless jurid oems I replaced which were getting dangerous in the wet. Its more the normal braking thats a bit mank at times. Give 'em some stick, warm them up and the feel/braking certainly improves (less pedal travel needed to stop). Leave it a bit and brake and you get more (soft) pedal travel. Will give it til the weekend, if its still being odd I've got a set of OEM pads I can fit to compare.

Are you running the 288mm or 312mm set up?

VRS, 312mm.

Was having some issues before with pedal travel and feel, hence the change. When I first installed them they did feel quite good (probably the brake in layer), but the feel has dropped off since unless you heat them up.

I find the brakes on my new vRS to be excellent. I've had Subaru's with uprated disc/pad, Nissans (200SX, Primera GTE) and driven a lot of cars when I was in the motor trade and TBH the standard Skoda set up feels more than adequate for road driving. I surprised anyone needs to upgrade unless they're taking the car onto a track or live in mountainous areas.
