Been up to Inverness on Holiday...

Featured Replies

I've just got back from a driving holiday to Inverness. Me and the mrs packed up and left at around 3AM Sunday morning, arrived 7 and a half hours later, having done nearly 500 miles!!!

My camera picked a great time to decide to break, but here's a few car related pics I managed to get out of it before letting it float to the bottom of Loch Ness!!!

Some of the roads up north are awesome. We headed up to John O'Groats from Inverness up the A9 and as soon as you're the otherside of Wick the traffic clears and the road becomes a great driver's road, sweeping corners, long straight... fantastic drives

Your right mate , the roads up north are great ,i cant agree more as i live 32 miles north of Inverness and the roads offer everything a driver could want and good views as well , glad you enjoyed it , you just have to watch out for deer as there are a lot on the roads just now , i hit one three months ago on my motorbike , not nice.

You see what I see?

Me and the mrs had a bit of a giggle at the shere volume of "Watch out for deer" signs everywhere, I guess the warnings were well founded!!

Cracking pics mate, and really nice looking car, me and SWMBO are due a visit up that way in early december with the Youth Group that we are involved in, some good driving roads up there.

Real evidence that Lochy is alive and kicking

We spent a week just out side Tomintoul last year (down a minor road -down a side road -then a mile down a cart track. Very peaceful!), and it's glorious country up there.

We set out to go to Balmoral, and Tom Tom said 25 miles, 45 minutes, which seemed a long time. Then we hit the A939, which takes you up and over the Lecht road, through the skiing area. Awesome!

Believe me, it'd be pretty exclusive location.4X4 owners only! Just here in fact.

I've gone that way recently- we have friends that live at Tomnavoulin nearby. It's a very cool road if you get a clear run.

We did have a clear run, but we only had a hired 1.4 Astra. Your friends are lucky people. Nice whisky from the little distillery there, too!

I love some of the country roads in the Highlands! :D

Only thing is, the weather can be a bit hairy this time of year. I got back to the UK from the USA on Monday, and drove from Glasgow to Ullapool to catch the ferry home...

In the space of a day, I'd gone from 25 degree California sun to -1 Highland heavy snow! Made what is usually a fun drive (when it's not too busy) into a rather, um, exciting situation. Then to add insult to injury I got stuck in Ullapool overnight cos they cancelled the Calmac ferry :thumbdwn: Oh well!

Good pics, I have worked up and down tha A9 quite a bit, in fact recognise the location of a couple of the pics. In about Feb last year was working about 3 mile north of the 3rd pic.

Driving up to it, south of the dual carriageway you were on about 6 mile south, perfect weather. Then on that DC was about 3inches of snow and finally where I was working about a foot deep. Can be quite hairy that way!!

Nice pics. I will visit up that way somewhen. My Dad used to rave about the highlands and all around, he lived in Nairn for many years and now I'm older I'm intrigued to experience it as we were very alike.

Think I'll go in the summer though ;)

Yep, I love the Highlands and will be back up there come May and July next year.

The Scottish Exec have got to upgrade the A9 though - it's claimed too many fatalities this year :(

great pics sounds like you had fun :D
