Hi

I'm now the proud owner of an Octavia TD vRS (2007), race blue, 8000miles old. The wife & I flew to Luton airport where Andrew from Progree Skoda Bedford picked us up. We sorted out the details then headed back home to Scotland. Bought the car without seeing it hadn't even driven one until we picked ours up. Both very pleased with the quality and drive the wife more so than me as I had done some research & had an idea it would be good! Thankfully the reviews were spot on.

Now I'll cut to the chase any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated being new to both the Skoda & diesel scene. Also thinking of tuning maybe a re-map, air filter that sort of thing nothing to drastic.

Thanks

Hello and Welcome.

Welcome. That's some distance and some faith  :)

Welcome to briskoda.

Hello and welcome. I think you've made a good choice.

For better tips try a searching the Octavia 2 section, but I would advise just driving it, don't dawdle about the engine doesn't like it. Especially if your only doing short journeys as the DPF will have issues. Also I find good economy comes from cruising at around 1750 rpm.

Get driving it and enjoy, oh and remember to fill it with diesel.

As already suggested....fill up with diesel!!!

You will find that you don't need to thrash the nuts off it to use the performance... for example..

on my drive to work I often come along drivers that seem to think 50 is the national limit. In my previous petrol car I would select 3rd and nip past them. In the Skoda (110bhp) I simply squash the gas pedal a little in 4th or 5th and nip past them just the same. (and that's without your extra bhp).

Having said that you should now start to think in terms of torque rather than 'imaginary horse' power.

I arrived at work this morning and checked my average mileage ..51.3mpg!! A bonus of driving along in convoy with the other commuters.:)

Hiya.

As others have already said, but take note that being quick in a diesel means using the throttle but not necessarily revving it hard. Yes, dropping a gear or 2 for that overtake from 40 to 50 makes the acceleration (and lift off deceleration if required) quicker, but not that much.
