Ross-Tech's VAG COM and Roomster?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm a satisfied owner of a Roomster Scout 1.6.

Here are a few pics of my Roomy :)

I'm considering buying Ross-Tech's VAG-COM Diagnostic System. I've talked to people at Ross-Tech, they are saying that any of their newer systems will work fine with Roomster. However, I'm not quite clear on the list of features I can turn on/off through OBD2 port and ECU. And it seems Ross-Tech can't help me on this.

Ross-Tech's web displays quite a comprehensive list of features for Octavia Mk1/Mk2 and Fabia Mk1, but there is nothing on Roomster.

Does anybody have a list of what can be done with VAG COM and Roomster?

Thanks

Marko

It will be very similar to the Fabia 1. It's not Can Bus so it's all pretty straight forward.

You will find most of the procedures are the same, if there are any differences it will just be in the channels so it's just a case of figuring out which one is which. This shouldn't take too long even with TAE.

I have a Roomster and Vag-Com, pretty much exactly as Decron says, pretty much everything is as per Fabia Mk1 with some subtle diffrences in channels. The latest versions of Vag-Com are very user friendly and the support is great :)

OK  but - for example - can I fix power windows so they raise every time I lock the car? As I've figured out that depends on the version of windows' controller that's installed in my car. Can I figure out the controller version with VAG COM, or do I have to use other applications from DOS mode :D

I've already disabled seat belt warning at the shop (that was the biggest nag to me), but I'd like to fool around with car's systems some more :)

@Fluffmeister: Would you say VAG COM came handy and helped you with some things with Roomster? Or it wasn't worth it?

Nope, I think thats a hardware thing requiring the likes of an Alientech controller. It can be done with the key however from the door itself.

Its always good to have the capability to change what you want. It depends on if you think the investment is worth it.

Two of my mates have done it on their Octavia Mk1 and Fabia Mk1. You press and hold lock button on the remote and windows go up. Vice versa when you hold the unlock button. However, they had to use KVW100 and VDS-PRO software. Both are rather, shall we say, user unfriendly :)

I'd rather manage everything through VAG-COM if I can.

You have to have the right controller. That's all to it. Even Classic (base) equipment package can have that type of VAG controller.

EDIT: You've updated your post. OK :)

Yeah, sorry about that. I realised I was barking up the wrong silicon tree.

The right information should be in that thread and there is a huge number of related KVW100 posts here and on SCN

One more point.

If I want to see the list of Roomster's features that I can adjust using VAG COM, I have to go here:

Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: VW MkIV Info

Common Diagnostic Procedures - Volkswagen MkIV (Golf/Jetta/New Beetle) VAG-COM Info

Am I right or am I wrong? :)

I could be a rough guide but the Roomster isn't Can Bus. The Mk5 golf also has a other features not mentioned here, so it's only really a loose guide.

So is there any straightforward and clear cut guide? And that's all I want to know. In a nutshell, if I get VAG COM, what can I do with it?

Not for the Roomster to my knowledge (Which isn't that comprehensive however...) The features are going to be roughly similar to any other VAG car around the same period (Mk4 Golf, Octy Mk1 etc) although maybe some of the controllers and/or the channels will be slightly different

Shame. One gets a new car and an old ECU

Well I think it's all relative to the price of the car to be honest. It doesn't have Can Bus so that means a lot of features that you may expect to find might not be there. If it did have Can Bus you could access a lot of it from the Maxidot

Vag Com is a very capable tool for Diagnostics, performance logs and convenience customisation. I have turned Anti Hijack on, read and reset fault codes, changed the EGR settings, adjusted Xenons, opened the ABS pump to bleed the brakes, adjusted steering weight, adjusted idle speed, changed alarm options, turned on one click locking, reset service intervals, read intake temps, logged boost pressures and a few others (Not all on the Roomster, some on my Fabia). It's good kit.

I thought the Scout was fitted with a 'Maxi-dot tip computer' my Roomy3 has one and believe me it can be a pest, but on the good side you can carry out your own diagnostics, it give efficent diesel usage in MPG ,plus loads more, I hate to say it but I'm lost without mine,so on balance I would say "Go get one fitted tomorow" john048

Maxidot is an option on the scout, but I have got it on mine and even though it's very limited in functionality when compared to an octy, I would not be without it, the gauges look much smarter with it.

That's right.

Compared to Octy Mk2 Maxi-Dot offers substationaly less functionality
