What to get and in what order???

Featured Replies

Guys

Got about £300 burning a hole in the pocket, looking for something to replace the standard **** HU and speakers.

Thinking about one of these, Car Audio Direct - Alpine iDA-X200 - USB Player plus better speakers. question, what speakers to get? Do I just replace front speakers? (only me in the car 99% time) and want decent quality, or replace fronts and rears? also, what about the tweeters?? the rears are disconnected now anyway. Looking for speakers to fit the font without doing any mods preferably, or minimal mods.

also read some of you mention adding sound deadening to the front doors, is this worth doing? I not an 'audiophile', but do like decent quality. any advice would be grateful.

thanks

Alpine or Pioneer headunit.

SPL Dynamics components in the front, leave the rears and front to the front slightly.

2 channel amp to the components

I'd just try the headunit first mate, you will be suprised how good the original speakers sound with a better headunit.

Totally agree with the above post, you might even decide not to bother changing the speakers once you change out the head unit (seeing as you're not an audiophile). I'm quite particular with sound quality, and the addition of the Pioneer head unit to my vRS has transformed the sound in my car, and makes the factory speakers come to life. I'm considering adding a single sub just to add a little more bottom end, but apart from that I don't think I'll be adding anything else. Possibly an amp or change of tyres, just to help drown out the road noise at motorway speeds.

Definitely, first thing to upgrade is the headunit. If you get a good one the difference in sound quality will be night and day!

Cheers guys, think I'll stick with a new HU then, might spend the rest on a rear ARB then

Liking look of this... DEH-P7000UB Pioneer Car Audio - CD Player - Car*Entertainment

I've got the old version of it and very impressed :) Have a hard disk connected to it hidden behind the dash with MP3's on it.

I was thinking of putting Hard disk in the glove box/behind dash as well, and might as well put in the aux (3.5m jack) cable for my mp3 player as well :) glad to hear you like yours, think I'll get mine ordered this week

Try putting some sound deadening in the doors. I did this on mine and it made the world of difference.

If you think you still need to change your speakers then try Infinity Ref 6522si! They fit straight in with no mods needed! they sound really good too! You can pick them up from halfords for around £75!

Hi guys

Just a quick post to say I've got the Head unit fitted, and its a really nice unit, sound quality is way better than standard HU. and with 40+ GB of mp3's hidden in the dash, I've got plenty to listen too. Well pleased :D
