Headlight making a noise all the time

Featured Replies

My off side headlight is making a whirring / grinding noise all of the time its switched on! It does the same if you adjust the headlight height. A bit bizarre, anyone any ideas?

I think there's something wrong with the level adjuster power feed, because the motor should only run when the headlight height is being adjusted. Or do you have auto-leveling?

Replacing the motor usually solves it. I replaced the second one on mine the other week. The servo doesnt seem to know what to do and constantly jitters, water ingress may be the cause of it?

Yeah I had this same issue not too long ago.

Motor just buzzed all the time, but only tickled the light unit making it wobble!

It's not too bad to replace the motor. But you need to remove the head/side lamp units to do it. Think the new part was £20-30ish.

P.S. don't overtighten the screws! The plastic is very weak, and it's easy to strip the threads when screwing the new motor in place.

Yep mine has just started doing this again! I sprayed it with wd40 before and it stopped it. Like martziniuk says proberly down to water ingress, as i went through some deepish water last week after a freak storm!!!!

Thanks for the response  The car is under warranty, although its an ongoing pain in the bum - they are supposed to be finding something of equivalent value so I can change it. I just wondered if the headlight was terminal or not - I will give it a spray of WD40 to keep it going!

That won't fix the dodgy cams on the boot, the oil leak, the intermittent EPC light....
