Auto Lock troubles

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Of late i've had an intermittent issue with my Octy MkII auto central locking function. At 10mph it sometimes attempts to kick in but fails and then unlocks again. It seems to reattempt then next couple of times i go below 10mph (at junctions etc) then move off again.

Some days it is fine - others not. Doesn't seem to be related to weather conditions ie. damp or dry days - but then again not ruling out condensation forming somewhere. I've opened and closed all the doors and checked over the mechanisms that are visible. No joy - still fails on the odd occasion!

Any ideas folks? I haven't been to the dealer as yet and i don't have VAG.com (not sure if it would register as a fault?)

Thanks.

What happens if you lock it manually from the inside, using the button by the gear stick, does that work? Also, have you tried tugging on the handles to check it's actually succesfully locking when you lock it from the outside?

When it gets in this failure mode - i have same response when trying the manual button press - it rejects it - you hear a clunk as it attempts to lock all doors then a 2nd clunk as it fails and immediately unlocks again.

I would suspect that one or more of the locks is jamming and causing the system to reverse.

I notice its a brand new one. So get it back to the garage for some warranty work!

Yeah - that's what i thought mate - i'll see what the dealer says (indeed it's only 6 months old). Just wanted to check if it was a known issue or just a one off instance on my car. Thanks for the responses thus far.

Just to conclude on this one. One thing that is odd though - when i leave the car and use the key fob to remotely lock the car - it works 100%. I have been checking this regularly as i was paranoid of inadvertently leaving the car unlocked. So why is only the auto lock affected?!? Hmmmmm?!?

Could be computer error then!

Best to get it in and they will hook it and and hopefully find out what happening!
