BUMP!

I also am interested in getting a higher output from my alternator to stop my headlights suffering from the power drained by my stereo. Any help appreciated ;-)

WTF!! The stock alternator can cope with all the exterior lights, heater and HRW on full, and the stereo!

Yes but I want more power, as my stock alternator doesn't agree with my non-stock stereo!

If your stereo is pulling more than the alternator plus battery can supply then you have a problem. The battery should smooth out things where the charge is used.

I'd be looking at possibly a larger battery and making sure the wiring is up to spec and connected to the correct places.

Unless you want to play with stereo competitions, I don't see the point in very high power stereos; it's not like a car interior is actually a decent environment for high fidelity sound (even if you like classical music that actually has the range of dynamic sound pressure to need hifi).

I quite agree Ken.

The other problem with high power stereos is the huge amount of heat they generate. Well I presume they do anyway... whenever a car fitted with one of these drives down my street, no matter how cold it may be, the poor sweltering driver invariably has the driver and passenger windows fully open in an effort to keep his cool. This has the side effect of sharing their chosen music with the entire neighbourhood. It's a pity then that good musical taste seems to be inversely proportional to the volume it's played at.

That doesn't need high power, just stupidly high volume settings (like turning it up to 11).

One time, I was stopped at traffic lights in the LH lane, beside a Fiat Punto. I had the passenger window open (quieter, less traffic fumes), and he had the driver's window open. I could clearly hear the programme (Radio Scotland afternoon entertainment show) that he was listening to!

i dont have problems that cause my windows to have to be down :P,

i also dont have problems with people smoking

or people drinking and ****ed out their head tba

aslong as they dont force it on me they can do as they please :orb_trump

as for the lads with windows down and music up to share with the world then yes it can anoy, but im a huge fan of my a/c and with sound deadning i find that the octy is a good car for keeping the sound on the inside  and the exhaust on the outside lol

of course its a bad day im having and ive just just took it all as digs to me and im sorry if ive come across rude :(

so sorry :(

MrRB666, You could get one of those power cap things? And uprate the battery, or power the system off of a second battery in the boot.

Power caps don't do anything really, second battery and split charging is the way too go.

Edit to add ...They don't generate that much heat tbh and even if they did its all in the boot anyway, yes the amps get warm but I wouldn't go as far as saying they get hot.

Nothing personal intended mate.

The other thing i wanted one for was due to the fact the care rarely ventures out it would get a good amount of charge into the battery

it seems to be working well on both uses

:buttkick:

Nice find!

I like the look of that!

Was it a straight replacement?

yeah straight on mate

:huep:

and sooo shiny

if i was going to spend money on it then it would have to be look different

:asthanos:

Lloyd mate while there are probably faster and better handling cars on here I absolutley love the preperation of your vehicle. A truly great example of the marque

cheers mate

its appreciated

its nice to have a fan of my stupidness

thanks again

Actually, serious thought on the subject of power draw. I used to know someone with a Rally Escort 2, who was running 4 Bi-Oscars, so 440W of auxilliary lighting, plus headlights etc, no problems off a Lucas 17ACR alternator.

:thumbup:I use a 5 farad power capacitor already, and really improved clarity. I also use 4awg wiring and is all sounding very clear at all volumes. Your suggestion of a second battery seems favourable, as I only suffer this problem on tick over. As soon as I pull away the alternator gives enough current for everything to work as normal. My regular solution is to turn down the volume at roundabouts anyway and you only really need it louder on the motorway, but it is nice to know i'v got the power if it was needed or wanted.

And Lloyd55vrs, I completely agree with you on the octy being good for sound, the car traps so much sound in before any deadening, very good for not offending people with my awful taste in music . I also have to say thats a very attractive find you have there, even if a shiney alternator doesn't fix my problem it looks bloody good on yours, I want one!!

PM me your chassis number and i can tell you whats fitted as standard to your car.
