MP3 Player

Featured Replies

I want to swap my standard radio cassette player on my vRS for a single disk MP3 player. Does anybody know if this is possible as I want to keep my 6 disk multi-changer as well.

Is it a case of taking the old radio out and plugging the new MP3 player in, or will I need a special lead to connect the multi-changer to the new head unit?

Any ideas?

Thanks

What brand stereo have you got in at the moment?

In Ireland, most come with Blaupunkt ( :thumbdwn: ). I know they do a single cd/ mp3 head unit that will work a Blaupunkt changer.

Not sure, the car is only two weeks old, the head unit has "Symphony" written on the front

Hmmm - I'm assuming an MP3 player with multichanger preouts, will play regular CDs in the changer and CD-R album collections? Most big brands should cater for this I reckon!

The multichanger is by Panasonic but has a Bosch/Blaupunkt type connector...in a nutshell if you want a multi-changer to go with a new head unit then you'll have to get a new changer as well.

Of course you could play around with the wires and get a Panasonic head unit......

Ok, as I understand it then, the multi changer fitted to my car has a connector on it that will only plug into the Skoda head unit, and even if I buy a panasonic head unit it still won't fit?

Does anyone make a lead to alter the Skoda wiring to fit any type of head uinit and keep the original multi changer

Generally (on Octavias BTW) we've found that the multichanger won't talk to anything other than a VAG H/U. The only VAG MP3 H/U I know of is on here http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/poloforum/viewtopic.php?t=6998 (cheers Josh!) and even if it didn't cost

Not that I know of...the connector is BOSCH/Blaupunkt type but you still need an adapter to plug into a Blaupunkt HU.....IIRC this is to get round the K-Line problem (do a search for it;).

IIRC most people who wanted an auto changer had to change it along with the HU.

Maybe Andy_ccr can help....he runs an ICE shop.

I had a similar(ish) problem recently. I took out my autochanger and offered it to a colleague with an Audi. The Audi H/U is VAG and will talk to my H/U but Audi wiring is different again. No adapter is available (independent and dealer) so the existing wiring had to be taken out and Skoda/VW wiring put in.

Ditch the changer its no good to you whatsoever with any aftermarket unit. As for Single disc MP3, well the choice is yours. There are also people who do MP3 changers if you so desire (Kenwood, Sony, Alpine all spring to mind)

OK so if I ditch the system in the car and go for a single disk MP3 player, will that plug into the existing wiring?

It should do. It does on the Octavia. You may also need the

Oh yes... :D And the aftermarket head unit "should" come with the adaptors needed to plug the existing wiring into it.. I know my Kenwood did anyway.

If as your handle suggests you live in Kent, Give a guy by the name of Steve @ Scottsmototune a call, When it comes to VAG installations he is excellent and seems to know his stuff. ( his number is 01304 219487 )

VAG is his line, he installed my Dension MP3 unit to the Symphony head unit in the car, he knew exactly which connectors / adaptors were required for VW, SEAT and even SKODA units.

BTW Sony do a headunit that contains a 20GB HDD, you insert the CD you want into the unit, it will dump it onto the internal HDD in MP3 format, then you can remove the CD and repeat the process. It will also allow MP3 transfer from the Sony memory sticks onto the HDD. - This was a consideration before I bought the unit I have.

Ask your local Sony dealer for a price. I still go a bit peculiar when I think about it

At worst the only adaptor you really need is the Autoleads antenna adaptor. Even this adaptor is not 100% necessary if you are not fussed about Medium Wave or 'average' FM reception.

Most headunits only need4 wires on the power side - power and accessory which are swapped in VAG group, Earth which is where it should be, and illumination which is where it should be.

Nothing difficult about any VAG group car !!!

Apart from fitting bugger deep component speakers, eh?

Man, I'm not looking forward to the attempted fitting of these speakers. :D
