How2 reduce engine noise?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've recently been passenger on a Volvo C30 and I noticed how low was noise level within that car.

What impressed me is the difference in engine soundproofing. Now it's not unknown that our Skoda are not the quitest and that PD engines are noisies than CR, BUT if I can imagine to add dampening to doors by removing door panels, what is/would it be possible to do to reduce engine noise coming from car front?

TIA,

turn it off?

 sorry will grab my coat, could try sound deadening sheets behind the car pet in the front and around the wheel arches.

Do yo have the under bonnet fabric fitted fromthe factory? This may help. Dynomat extreme can be used for firewalls and underbonnet installation also - personally I dont like the look of it plastered in places where its visible but its supposed to be very good at cutting out noise from the cabin if installed properly. :)

Thank you all

Dynamat xtreme on the floor and firewall behind the dash IMHO.

How do you get at the area behind the dash & under the accelerator pedal? Is it a complete dismantle of the interior dash area?

Noisekiller have done most of my car, but not the firewall/bulkhead area. They did the under the bonnet, the boot floor & spare wheel, rear wheel arches, under back seat and under the carpet mats area. It's better but could be even better. I think it now emphasizes the noise coming from the front. (drowned out by the noise from the back before!).

Also waiting for the tyres to wear out at front to put some quieter ones on.

I must say I always suffered front noise before anything else. At high speed there are ton of noise coming from roof bars (I already planned to dismantle them).

Any idea where to get b-quiet in eu/uk?

b-quiet?

Is that a cheaper clone and if so and it's bitumen based don't bother as it won't be too effective after a couple of years.

Much better to do it properly.

Regarding the dash and peddle areas yes I believe it would have to come out so I'd be paying a company to do it myself.

Well it must depend on how noisy your pet is. I mean is it a dog? cat? wailing woman? budgie? Mind you I don't know anyone who has a car pet so what do you have?

I'd suggest giving a look here:

B-Quiet sound deadening materials - Compare B-Quiet with Dynamat

and around, you'll find one article comparing sound deadening materials (both rolls and sprays).

The b-quiet extreme is bitumen based so is going to go hard and crack up quite quickly.

I'm not sure on the ultimate but it sounds like it's a bitumen/butyl composite rather than just butyle.

You pays your money etc etc, but I'd never take the website information at face value.

Those figures show dynamat is better at 20 degrees and the transmission figures don't include the dynamat which is a bit odd.
